What are the differences between the immigration policy in the early 1900s, compared to today's?
The other thing is that when my grandparents came here--they did so LEGALLY. Well---to my knowledge back then it was simply a matter of showing up and filling out paperwork...wasn't it?

In the early 1900s we didn't have welfare and social security and lots of other things that today's immigrants are exploiting. Back then, people pulled their own weight. Many of the new immigrants are dead weight.
Back then, the laws were enforced, and people had enough pride in themselves and their country to not let anyone walk all over them. That's the biggest difference.
In the time your grandparents came here , people had a much higher regard for the law than now , today's people (not all but many) have little or no regard for the law of the land or for anyone else for that matter , just as long as they get what "they" want . Pretty sad really.........
Just In case you dont know... ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION Is a crime. Why should people that have applied LEGALLY,go to the back of the line behind ILLEGAL ALIENS? I would say that you are using very tortured logic,and you really dont have a clue about your "FACTS".
