I think the government should give them a time limit on which to leave the country with no punishment. Then after that date, if any are found here, then they should get the most strict punishment. That is totally fair. The time limit should be set for all businesses as well to get rid of them or be fined or closed down.

the democrats opened this can of worms because they could not get any dirt on the republicans in office at the time. now that the dems are in the house i dont see them bringing it up again esspecially after it bit them back.

You are being optimistic to the point of delusion. No, this is no where near the end. This is, at best, the begining of American citizens taking thier country back from occupying invaders and corrupt politicians. The status quo left behind by the failure of this bill is, itself, nearly as intollerable as the Amnesty would have been had it become law!

The illegals are going to go on as usual. Now that we have won that battle, we need to make them understand that they need to secure the border and enforce the laws on the books. We will never be fooled again to accept amnesty with the promise that those on the hill will also do their part and make sure the laws are enforced. Fool us once (1986) shame on us, fool us twice 2007 and we'll kick all their asses back to whence they came.

A majority of them pay taxes, spend their money here, learn the language and obey the laws, just like the rest of us - so how are they bothering you. All you people who hate illegal immigrants, do you even know any illegal immigrants or do you just try to hang out with people who are the same race and color as yourself, that's so limiting. That's the great thing about the US, people can be different.
This is just the beginning. We now must continue to fight for secured borders and enforcing the law. We have proven that we can make a difference. The politicians know they better listen to the people or they will lose lots of votes. NO AMNESTY! Let the deportations begin!
At least until 2009-2010. No one running for office in an election year will go anywhere near this issue. It's another 3rd rail in politics.
I think the defeat of the bill is a very good start. We've seen what power we have when we all join together and make our voices heard. We need to use that power now to have our laws enforced and give them no reason to be here.
oh please. what exactly do you all fear? i read these questions and am appalled at the word use and spelling errors---from good ol' white america? look, the bill failed passage, not because America spoke. most americans were for some kind of comprehensive package. it failed because a presidential election is underway. all the republican candidates have suddenly become ultra conservative--excepting mccain, who has been losing points. it was a procedural loss--if allowed to be voted on, only a majority vote may have passed it.

That's funny because yesterday, last week, last month, last year, they all lived, worked, ate, went to school, went to parties, slept, just like any other day they were here illegally. What makes you think they will leave just because the bill came to an end (for now)??
We can enforce the laws (but it will not happen), and they can lose their jobs but where will they get the money to go back to their home countries? the only option is to go homeless or die of hunger with their children. I think that's what you want here, isn't it?
Nope if the Dems win next year's elections, they'll legalize the lot of them regardless of what the people say or do. Then raise taxes to pay for it all.
