exactly...i am american and now live in denmark. no it doesnt reduce income or the economy. in denmark we have the highest standard of living, we buy what we want when we want, and work only 40 or less hours per week. we also get 5 weeks vacation paid nomatter what and then extra days off wherever u want it. our minimum wage is also higher then in the states. it makes people happier in their life and environment all around. its a wonderful system plus u get to travel, expand your knowlege and education, spend time with family and friends without the worry of losing benefits or a job. it awesome.
and in case people havent notice, probably due to the censored media in the states, the US economy is not the greatest. Denmarks is actually higher plus we paid our national debt. Its a shame when the states doesnt get news outside of the US news bubble.

Think about moving to Italy. They are not as progressive as we are.
Americans are lied to, and believe whatever their GOD (The government) tells them. If the govt wants 80hrs/week, they get it. People just do what they're told here, and those that don't are treated with disdain.

i think its better to work more. it contributes more to this great country. why would we change if we already have our economy at one of the best?

i can't find the time to go on vacation! no one can cover me...and of the people that "can" cover me, i wouldn't trust them to.
There is a reason that Italy has 33% less per capita GDP.
Anyone that is willing to reduce their income by 33% can have lots more time off.
If you are willing to spend less, you can work less, it's just that simple.

I like a 4 day work week instead. 9 hour shifts - 36 hours is enough. You can work less just do like they used to do- one phone, one car, one tv, one stereo, no cell phones, no ipods, no computers, no designer clothing, 3 outfits for work or school, a pair of brown and a pair of black shoes, public school,basic haircut, not precision, no Starbucks, no going out to eat, brown bag it for lunch, no concerts, no movies, no dvd players, no manicures, no pedicures, drugstore makeup, no jewelry, carpooling,you can cut out all these things and take a lot of time off. Depends what your priorities are. Unfortunately we all would rather have our stuff than spend quality time with our families. Now everyone is in their own room, watching their own tv and on their own computer and we all have to go to work tomorrow in our own car to pay for these things.

I am usually working about 45 hours a week, and thats not bad doesnt bother me. I get about oh 6 paid holidays and 14 paid days off a year, its not a huge amount of time but im not complaining.
Sounds nice, but Demand, we Americans are trying that Demand thing with No Amnesty, and they are not listening, so I doubt if they will listen to more time on vacation, since they work about one hundred days a year, they could care less about us. I understand wanting more time with the family and children, but as most Americans, we are workaholics, we work hard for what we have, need and want, and certainly do not want to lose my job to a illegal saying 'they do the jobs that Americans will not do."

Why would someone want to spend more time relaxing and pursuing creative interests outside of a structured environment?

Didn't you know that Europeans in general have this generous vacation time? Lets face it, in this country, quality of life has gone down the tubes.We are over worked and under paid.Sad
