Can we please keep "compassion" out of the illegal immigration debate and keep "common sense" in it?

We want to be compassionate for people who broke, and continue, to break the law. What about the millions of US citizens who are competing with or have lost jobs, lives, and money to these very same illegals?
Common sense says that we take care of our own problems before anybody elses.

And please, don't tell me that common sense means giving amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens.

Answer:
I'm with you on this one. I have compassion for the immigrant who has taken the legal route and applied for US citizenship and have respected others by 'waiting their turn.' What I do not have compassion for are illegal (law breakers) who come here and expect automatic citizenship and reward for their disrespect, disloyalty, and 'you owe me' attitude.

"When an illegal immigrant is hired a number of circumstances arise. The first consequence to hiring an illegal immigrant is taking a job away from an equally qualified naturalize citizen." (Link 2)

* End all illegal immigration
* Restore common sense to immigration policies
* Enforce immigration laws
* Stop terrorists at our borders
* Deport illegal aliens (Link 4)

"Between 2000 and 2005, 4.1 million immigrant workers arrived from abroad, accounting for 86 percent of the net increase in the total number of employed persons (16 and older), the highest share ever recorded in the United States.

Of the 4.1 million new immigrant workers, between 1.4 and 2.7 million are estimated to be illegal immigrants. This means that illegal immigrants accounted for up to 56 percent of the net increase in civilian employment in the United States over the past five years.

Between 2000 and 2005, the number of young (16 to 34) native-born men who were employed declined by 1.7 million; at the same time, the number of new male immigrant workers increased by 1.9 million." (Link 2)
Hey Terry are you black???/
Isn't it funny. we've become so wrapped up in everyone else, that we're forgetting to take care of our own fellow citizens? Well, maybe not us, but our gov't., anyhow. Some people think that everyone here has it so great, but there are truly millions of Americans that are in need, in one way or another. I'm reminded of the old saying, which certainly applies here..."Charity begins in the home".
You've got it! We don't have any compassion for lawbreakers! They are liars, cheats and thieves and are bringing their children up to be just like them. Justice is blind, or it is supposed to be. That means that illegal is illegal and those who commit crimes should be punished. Nothing short of enforcement should be acceptable. We don't need new laws. We need more enforcement of existing laws. NO AMNESTY! ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND THOSE WHO HIRE, HARBOR AND HELP THEM!!! Seize their children and put them in orphanages to be brought up within the law and teach them how to obey the laws -- we're paying for them either way.
No sorry, I can't keep "compassion" out of the equation.And yes, if Africa were our neighbors and we had millions of illegals Africans coming here looking for a better life, I would be equally passionate about this issue.
Where is the compassion for the middle class tax payer that has to pay for all the foolishness
What 'common sense' are you talking about? US government will have to deport ALL illegal immigrants if they want to enforce the immigration laws. My 'common sense' tells me that is not practical. Deporting 20 million illegals is not very sensible. Who's going to pay for the deportation? Ask the illegals to pay for their own cab fare and go back to their country? Besides, who's to make sure they don't come back?

The practical way would take several steps to solve this problem.
1. Stricter port and border controls.
2. Removal of 'automatic citizenship' at birth and removal of free school and medical services.
3. Giving easier work visas to those who want to work legally.
4. Give significant tax incentives to businesses to hire local union workers.
When it comes to people for illegal immigrants, common sense cannot be applied to. If they have an iota of common sense they would not be in denial that illegal means against the law, and against the law means it is a crime. Duh!
Can YOU keep hate out of it and try being compassionate?

Look at all your questions and answers. You ALWAYS talk crud about Hispanics. If you don't see the hate, then there's no hope for you.
Common sense and compassion are not mutually exclusive.
As long as the ignorant and shallow minded continue to grace this forum common sense among pro amnesty folks will continue to remain dormant. You see people like celix are only against the anti side because of the love she has for one of these criminials, there for without any sort of factual basis, feels she has all the "reasoning" she needs to defend the pro amnesty movement. The others have yet to provide any sort of real defense in regards to this debate. I see you ask very good questions, and kinda remind me of me when I first started frequenting this forum, but you will soon grow tired of the ignorance and repetitiveness of the dim witted pro amnesty folks on here. Just wait.
your right cuz commen sense says that the people in south american and central america couldn't have possible migrated to the continental us before the whities brought their pandora's box of fun overfor the native americans by the boatloads and then imported "illegals" because they didnt wanna get their lazy burn after 4 mins of sunlight a$$e$ out in the cotton field.
What about the compassion that should be going to US citizens? The illegal aliens are taking billions for dollars away for citizens! That's wrong. Let their country take care of them, not us!!!

There are so many things that the illegals are doing to hurt US citizens. Everything from services to welfare for their anchor babies. We can't, and shouldn't, be taking care of the whole world.
Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
I Agree with you a 10000000000000% People have honestly lost their ability to think with their minds. It's just ridiculous what this country has become. I wish they would get rid of all the illegal immigrants, Taking advantage of the system, living in illegal homes, making illegal changes, not following the rules. WE have to take care of the people who are suffering now, who are legal, then we can help the rest of the world.
