Why do people think...?

...that mexico is a third world country when it actually has one of the highest development human development statuses in the world?

the only people trying to come into america are from the north. but its not fair to base mexico on just the north.

think if compton, the bronx, oak cliff, and other terrible areas of the u.s. represented america? we would also be labled "third world"

your saying the Mexicans from just the north area can't move to other area in Mexico for a better life?
A Primary Source is...

a document or some other evidence written or created during the time under study, such as:

direct traces of the event
accounts of the event, created at the time it occurred, by firsthand observers and participants
accounts of the event, created after the event occurred, by firsthand observers and participants
advocacy messages that are part of a controversy versus those that are about a controversy

Examples of a Primary Source

There are several different types of primary sources.

Published Sources are created for large audiences and distributed widely.

autobiographies, speeches, eyewitness accounts, advocacy messages found in newspapers & magazines, interviews, transcripts, advertisements, maps, pamphlets, posters, laws, and court decisions

Unpublished Sources

personal letters, diaries, journals, wills, deeds, family histories, and many other sources

Oral Traditions/Oral Histories provide important historical evidence about people, especially minority groups, who were excluded from mainstream publications or did not leave behind written primary sources.

Interviews and recordings from people with firsthand knowledge of historical events

Visual Documents and Artifacts

photographs, films, paintings and other types of artwork, coins, clothing, tombstones, and many other things.

Wikepedia is a Secondary source. All information from wikepedia comes from the public. They have to give some primary sources, so it's kinda credible, but there has been instances when it was plain WRONG!!
Mexico is rich in resources. The people are poor "as in third world country poor" because of the corruption there.
Because the people who do come over "illegally" ten d to be poor, and the in the USA we only hear about the negative things happening in Mexico. When people go to the resorts in Mexico, they tend to compare the resorts to the relative poverty in the area outside the resorts. You are correct about the perception of the USA, by the way. Most of the world views us in relation to our
runaway cowboy George Bush mentality, while the majority of the USA doesn't agree with the irresponsible way Bush leads our once proud government. Such is life. It isn't fair.
If we go by states like West Virginia and Mississippi or what we let happen to those poor people in New Orleans.then we are also a 3rd World country. Of course, states with a lot of Mexicans like California are usually very rich.
I hear PARTS.for the wealthy are ok. You get to graduate out of 3rd world when those standards of living go to the majority and not just a select few.

And you're right.we have some pretty lousy spots here. That's why it makes no sense to allow 12-20 million here to take jobs and drain services to make sure those people never see the light of day and make others lower their ranks to where we end up becomming like Mexico. Very rich and very poor. No thank you. We have our own problems.we don't need Mexicos too.
According to the HDI Mexico is 53rd and the US is 8. Some of the eastern european countries that are still recovering from russian rule place higher.
Could it be the word IGNORANCE might have something to do with it?

Gee WHIZ...the same could be said for America could it not?

Only difference seems to be skin colour and language.

I feel sorry for you Americans...you are in so deep and cornered from all sides.

And Jackie thank you for bringing up New Orleans...I don't know how people can talk about Mexicans when the people of New Orleans are treated just as poorly and ignored by your own government!! If it had been California do you think the situation would have been the same?
Mexico remains third world for one reason. Your government and police are so corrupt they steal from their own people.
In 2002 50% of the population of Mexico was living in poverty. (see the link from the worldbank below) Wow!

USA level is estimated to be 2%-5%. I wonder how many of them are illegal immigrants from Mexico?
I'm not quite sure what the point of this whole post is supposed to be?? Is to try to convince us that Mexico is on a par with the U.S.?? If it is, GO HOME illegal aliens! Why are they in our country? If there was employment available in Mexico for these "12 million" illegal aliens, they wouldn't have to break our laws to come here.

Every country in the world (especially large cities) has its poverty (Eve). I don't know if you are from the U.S. or not, but it really doesn't matter. I have lived a good portion of my life around N.O., and believe it or not, there is (was) a lot of wealth there too...
