Why haven't Canadians crossed en-masse into the USA, like the Mexicans, due to their low standard of living?
Answer:
Watch it! Those Canadians will have the RCMP on your @$$ in a New York minute if you start insulting ANYTHING about their country. Besides, they already ENJOY this wonderful socialized medicine that the liberals would have you believe is the answer to all health care problems. You know, where they have to wait as long as 2 years to get on a surgical schedule for a simple hernia repair.
Your statement is absurd:
"the poor state of the Canadian economy, the lack of quality health care, and the overall miserable quality of life in Canada."
1. You cannot compare the Canadian economy to that of Mexico. Per capita GDP in Canada is US$35,200, in Mexico it is US$10,600. The Canadian economy on an aggregate basis is much smaller than that of the US, but on a per capita basis the discrepancy is very small.
2. The lack of quality health care can also be argued for the US. The contrasting issue is that in Canada the population has access to health care, while in the US only those who can afford private medical insurance. Hospitals in Canada are still general hospitals, and can treat emergencies while in the US there is a trend for specialized hospitals that treat privatly insured customers and no emergency cases. Also, medicine in Canada is taxed at much lower levels than in the US, making it more affordable to a larger segment of the population.
3 - The overall miserable quality of life in Canada? This is the most absurd statement of all... while I might agree that living in sub-zero conditions for most of the year would be miserable to me personally, it is by no means a generalization on the country but rather a completely personal opinion.
Because they're part French and the French admit to hating Americans.
Who knows. Probably because it's not as bad as you think it is, and it's way worse in Mexico.
Actually, there are a significant number of Canadians crossing the border because of their health care situation. Sure, it's "free", but it can take months to get a doctor's appointment in Canada, and the quality of care is well below our standards.
Go socialism!
Probably due to the facts Canadians may be smarter than we Yanks or they just aren't known to be a nation of lawbreakers.
Unlike mexico, canada have little or no corrupted government.
Think about it !!
The Canadian economy is actually fairly decent. They are a member of the G8 as is the US. The G8 is comprised of some of the wealthiest economies in the world. The wealth is also more equally divided than in the US. In turn their citizens have no nead to come to the US because they are doing just fine in Canada. They are a democratic state with slightly more state control over their economy than the US exerts. They also provide the US with a large chunk of our oil imports. Canadians have no need jumping our back yard fence. In fact the border is scarcely even monitored.
Did not know they had a low standard of living in Canada. When I visited there, it did not appear to be low life. As for as Mexicans, they love the low life, they just want it all for free. You can take the Mexican out of Mexico, but you can not take Mexico out of the Mexican. They are trashing the US like they have done to their own country.
do you know anything about canada ????
you need to look it up you are worng on alot of your info
I'm lazy. Your answer is here:

I think that it is because they don't have a government that is so crooked. Mexico has a very wicked government and the people want to get away from that. People can withstand a lot of things but they will not withstand a wicked government. Canada has a fairly moderate government. I know that the people are unhappy with the pay and the standard of living, but they have the opportunity to change this yet, the Mexicans don't. They are stuck with a violent government.
I guess because Canadians pride themelf of "the poor state of the Canadian economy, the lack of quality health care, and the overall miserable quality of life in Canada", so far that they sarcastically said "the poor state of the Canadian economy, the lack of quality health care, and the overall miserable quality of life in Canada" to their USA cousins.
Well, Mexicans go to the USA because the USA need workers.
While Canadians don't go to the USA because they were frozen there?
Anyway. It's known that people in warmer climate are more active than people in colder climate. Mexicans are more active than their Canadian counterparts who are quite more relaxed.
It had nothing to do the economy, health care, and quality of life, since Mexico probably give the best ouf the three north american nations.
You are being sarcastic, I hope. I live in Canada and it has as high a standard of living here as the USA. Another thing you might want to think about is we have hardly any illegal immigrants here and yet our cost of living is very comparable to that of the USA - our food and services are about the same cost, even though we don't have the number of illegals working here that the USA has. I think that blows up the pro illegal supporters' argument that "without illegals in the USA, your cost of fruits and veggies and other products and services would soar." We have fruits and veggies to pick, lawns to mow, children and seniors to be cared for, houses to be built, fast food places and restaurants. How come our stuff costs about the same as in the USA, even without illegals doing those jobs?
Also, I have never had to wait months for a doctor's appointment. If I call my doctor's office for an appointment, if it is an emergency I will always get in that same day and otherwise, within a few days. If I want to, I can go to any walk-in clinic and be seen within 20 minutes to an hour, max. and I don't pay a thing for the visit. Granted, many non-emergency surgical procedures do take longer to get here. We, like the USA, have a shortage of doctors and nurses.
To another person's comment about the weather here - not ALL of Canada is buried in snow and with freezing weather year round. Most of our population is quite close to the Canada/USA border and our weather there is the same as the weather of the northern states, such as Seattle, Washington - southern BC has the same weather, basically. Sure, further north, as Alaska, USA, we have areas that are colder and with more snow, but some people do prefer that type of climate. There's something for everyone here.
Most Canadians do not have a need to go to the USA illegally because life is very good in Canada, for the most part.
ummm, health care? excuse me, we have health care, and the US does not. your apparent ignorance of canada must explain the absurdity of your question.
Maybe because they know the education in the US is bad enough that US students have questions of the type: "Why haven't Canadians crossed en-masse into the USA, like the Mexicans, due to their low standard of living?" While the US has some of the brightest people and most impressive universities, it also has people like you.
You clearly have little understanding of economics, health care, immigration factors, and transnational relations.
I had to take a while to laugh at this question before I could start answering...
Where do you get the idea that Canada has a poor economy, a poor health care system, and a poor quality of life? You are exactly the reason why there is anti-Americanism in Canada.... it's complete ignorance devoid of any fact whatsoever. Yet you think you have the right to label Canada when you know nothing about it.
If you think Canada's economy is so terrible, perhaps you should go to Calgary (one of many cities doin REALLY good). You'd probably be amazed at how there's such a labour shortage, employers attract workers from all around the country offering them VERY high wages and usually a couple month's rent. Do you know how easy it is to get a high paying job in Alberta? Not exactly the sign of a poor economy is it?
Here we go again with Americans (typically completely ignorant of our health system) bashing it again becuase it's not exactly like theirs. Canada's health system isn't exacty universal.. it's provincially run. That means it differs from province to province (for those of you who dont' know what a province is.. it's like a state). There ARE private clinics, and you dont' have to wait two years to get surgery. You guys are spitting out statements that have absolutley no validity to them. Some hospitals in SOME provinces are pretty jam packed. But that's becuase of government cut backs, NOT becuase the system is failing. When you don't fund things, it usually doesn't work out.
Do you guys think that weather stops at the 49th parallel? This may suprise some of you, but there's some parts of Canada that rarely ever get snow. Most of Canada is very warm in the summer... usually around 80 to 90 degrees F. Winters can get cold, but you have to put into consideration the size and diversity of this country. It's larger in area than the United States, with many different regions, all completely different than eachother.
I honestly find it mind boggling, that most Americans know nothing about their largest trading partner and closest ally. Perhaps the education system down there is terrible...either that or there's a mind set that America is the center of the universe.... I'm really hoping it's the education.
Canada takes care of its own! Why should they cross? Mexico is a different story , there the people , the ones that cross over , are treated like dogs! Canada is the country of the future! Poor state of Canadian economy? what about the poor state of the U.S.A. economy? Salute!
