Yes, particularly those handing out post cards for amnesty addressed to Senators for the congregation to sign and send in. I have never heard of a more glaring violation of church and state separation.
If they actually hire people to lobby for money, then they have to form a separate organization and pay taxes. If they aren't getting paid to lobby, then they're citizens like you and me and exercising their right to petition the government.

As a rule the government can't tax the church because they are a non profit organization. But the money that they pay to lobbyists is taxed. Foreign government and corporations also have numerous lobbyists.
One of the great things about our country is that everyone is entitled to their opinion whether you agree with it or not. What kind of uproar do you think would happen if the government started cracking down on people that had different opinions than those in the majority? That smacks of fascism. Our country needs differing opinions. When no alternate opinions exist you get "group think" and no progress gets made.
Call the IRS all you want and they will probably just laugh at you or worse yet, start looking at your taxes a little closer and give you an audit just for you trouble.
I am not a religious person, but if you disagree with the Catholic church so much, maybe you should volunteer your time to a group that has counter ideas to theirs.
There is little the IRS can do on that. the church..and I mean ALL churches not just the catholic church is tax exempt and really have been since their beginnings. And there really is no law saying a church can not stand up and voice itself against certain things such as the use of Birth controls which mind you the Catholic church is against or even abortion and other political agendas. And just because the church is voicing their opinions and wants publicly through various media's doesn't mean they are trying to control anything they are simply doing what the bill of rights give them the right to do free speech. So which means if anything happens say something becomes out lawed and the church happened to have a stance against don't mean they controlled anything it just means they swayed enough voters to see their point of view in the matter so really in such matters you have to blame the voters not the church.
The Constitution guarantees no such law can be levied against organized religion. Thank you, Separation of Church and State.
But this does not mean the Church's themselves cannot can't have a political opinion - and campaign to advance that opinion.
It is the responsibility of every Christian to campaign and vote for policy that reflects their Christian values.
