Refugee Status?
All war refugees around the world are accepted into the United States the instant they step on our soil. Then a process of health tests, mental evaluation, and criminal background checks are done. Is each refugee turns up clean. They are given Perminent Resident status (Green Card) in the United States.
And country that is wartorn, its citizens are considered refugees. If a country is communist, the United Nations considers them refugees. All countries int he United Nations must accept them.
Currently if Chineese, Cubans, Iraqis, Afghanis, Somalians,and people of Darfur (probably more to the list) step on the land of any countries of the UN, they are given refuee status and after evaluation Perminant Resident status. But they cannot be sent back.
I just though some people would like to know that.
Why is this a good thing? People need a place to live after their Government fails.

Here's the real statistics in case someone wants to know what's really going on. Typically, the US only accepts those of special interest to them. Over 50% are under the age of 25. Most of the time they do not accept families. There is a limit determined every year and you have to preapply. You don't just come here and get it automatically if you're not a criminal. Even families from the Darfur region will not just automatically get it.
The US is notorious for it's response during the Rwandan genocide in which it refused to acknowledge there was a genocide going on and didn't grant refugee status.

I just want to make sure people understand that the US doesn't just help everybody on the tax payers dollar. Quite frequently, we just leave thousands to die.
If people who are in Darfur need to leave and come to the US they should. Those people are being slaughtered because they belong to a different ethnic group. Women are being raped in front of their husbands, children are forced to hide at night. No human being should live under these conditions. I have no problem with granting people refugee status in this country.
You have to realize that not only the United States accepts refugees many other countries do also. I have no problem with helping these people.
However the actual % that makes it in the US is quite small.
There's a famous case where the US made a mistake of not accepting refugees:
In WWII there was a instances where Jews who were fleeing from Europe were rejected by the United States. It happened in 1939 the name of the boat was " St. Louis " there was 937 refugees. The refugees was sent back to Germany by the US government. What happened to those people they all ened up in Auschwitz only a few lived through the event to tell their story.
