Will I lose my residence?
Answer:
A Perm Resident card doesnt come easily nowadays...If you are out of the country for more than a year, you can lose the rights that card gives you. Permenant residence means exactly that...Permenant Residence. If you think that getting that card was a mistake, then hand it back over...I am sure someone else would appreciate it more than you do. Personally, I think your trying to pull peoples legs with this question as too many people would think your crazy for saying that you may have made a mistake. Anyways...cya!
EDIT- If that is the case, and you notified the US govt properly by filing the correct form (l-191) then you should not have a problem
NO , comeback before August 8 and you won't lose your Permanent residency status.
You won't lose your Green Card, you have to start over the residence requirement to become an US citizen?
When you come back, make sure to bring documentation for the reason causing you to stay out of US for one year. Expect to be questioned hard. If this is your first time and you have good explanation, you might left without warning.
That's exactly what it means. If you're not back by Aug. 8th your permanent residence is abandoned. If you do come back, and then leave shortly after again, it will still be considered to be abandoned. The whole idea behind permanent residency is that you will actually live in the United States.
It's also abandoned if you are working outside the United States so you might have lost it already.
Depends upon your legal status. Sounds like you were illegal and therefore have no status and you cant lose what you never had. Go to the back of the line and start over the right way.
