How do you enter the US legally to work?

Let's say I am a poor Mexican willing to work hard and abide by the laws. I want to come to the United States and pick fruit, or mow lawns or wash dishes. How do I get here legally? If you believe there is a way, please cite the applicable visa provisions. I do not think there is a legal way for such a person to enter this country.
