i was at work last week and got pissed off with a polish guy, he asked me where i was from and i told him Scotland, he shrugged his shoulders and made a remark at me which i could'nt understand and snubbed his nose at me!!! now i'll get one thing straight i am not racist by any means,my grandmother came from Italy so, i just let it go but it's bothering me now, i've spoke to my fellow countymen about this subject and have heard alot of them say they have had this happen to them or worse. why come here if you do not like us or this country? when people or refugees come here they do not try to interagate to our culture or way of life, i know it must be hard but if i was to move to there country i would have to adapt to there society and accept it but it seem they don't have to here
Answer:
I don't think anyone should be here if they don't want to. This is the land of the free. If he doesn't like it here, he is free to pack up and leave.
There's a huge difference between the Polish guy who is a migrant worker and refugees/asylum seekers.
Migrant workers are here purely for the money, they don't intend to stay here long and just want the opportunity to earn a better wage than they can at home.
Refugees and Asylum seekers are much more likely to view Britain as their home as they are hoping to be able to stay here permanently (or as long as it is unsafe in their own country). They often haven't chosen this country they have just gone anywhere that is safe for them; if they had the choice they would stay at home but that is not an option for them.
I think a lot of them do try to integrate as much as they can but they find it very difficult as they're often not allowed to work and face so much hostility from the rest of their community. As a result they end up staying in their own ethnic groups were they feel accepted and safe and then we criticise them for not integrating. Anybody see the irony here!
