Am I liable if I send a US Tourist Visa Invitation to a friend?
It is very very unlikely that he would decide to stay in the US illegally. In case he decided to do something crazy, would I be liable in any way? Would I get in trouble when I report it to the immigration authorities? This is a very unlikely scenerio, but I do want to know my responsibilities.
In the invitation, I plan on saying that I'll cover for my friend's housing, food and medical expenses for a week. I'll attach a salary report that I'll get from HR. Is this enough? Are there any dangers that I don't know about regarding this project.
Thank you!
Answer:
Call your local INS office and speak with them, they should be able to give you all the information that you are seeking and maybe even some more.
Do not go off of what people here may tell you, get the real deal from the Immigration and Naturalization Service office INS. They will tell you what you can legally do or not do.
Best of luck to you!
you do not need to invite him ./ he can go on a regular visa to visit you . If you stand up for him and he does something dumm you jeperdize yourself and your status too!
You won't get the approval so do not worry too much about it. Get a Fiancee Visa instead. You are old enough to be married? I think it is called a K-1 Visa or something like that. You don't have to marry him, but he has to go back if you don't. And in the K-1 case, you are not liable.
