He asked for my details and a scanned copy of my passport. I almost submitted my details but then I decided to look up for info on the net.

Answer:
Well I think you know by now that it's a scam. It's a form of 419 Advance Fee Fraud (as it is called). You can find out more about this sort of crime here:

http://www.419eater.com/

These people fight the fraudsters in their own way. Do not try to do it yourself. These fraudsters are clever and dangerous. (But the website is VERY VERY funny!)
It's a scam , bin it !!
Yes that is a scam.
This is a typical SCAM! Don't fall for it.
Biggest scam on the Internet. Everybody has been getting this. It frightens me that some people can even have any doubt about it being a scam.
Send him your banking info QUICK!!! Routing number, Account number and all names on the account as soon as you can, so you can receive your free money.
Where have you been ??..This has been going on for a long time!
Report this to your email provider. It is a scam! Then, delete it.

It is a SCAM.

The give away in these 'Nigerian Scams' is the poor quality of English. I have received a number of these from people in Nigeria who claim to be 'lawyers'. Well if they are, their command of English is too low and since English is used in legal circles all over the Commonwealth.what, the, etc.

You could also go to Data Wales and let them see what you've got. Their site deals with most of this sort of stuff.
Go for it
its definitely a scam go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_... and have a look if you just send them an abusive reply to this email they usually take your name off the sucker list. If you were to submit your details you will probably end up a victim of identity theft
If you want more information about this, pleae send me £1,000 in used notes, I will investigate for you, promise!

Definitely a scam, if it sounds too good to be true..
Hi There, this is a scam and has been widely reported as such in the press and media. You should notify your Internet / Email service provider and report this to the Police. This is the standard advice given in northern Ireland. Scams like this end up in Fraud and Identity Theft. Also, do not pass this scam email on to anyone else. Others have left you web references which should also prove useful. Never reply to unsolicited emails with bank or other personal information - for your own protection. Hope this helps. Seanf
