You are 100% correct! In fact when people say only U.S.Native Americans are the only Native Americans they are incorrect. There are more South American & Central American Natives. That is why it is incorrect to assume unless someone belongs to a North American tribe, they are not Native Americans.
People should be labeling themselves as U.S. Citizens, We live in the United States of America.

It is a continent, but the name of our country is also the United States of America. I guess it's just shortened to Americans. Most other countries call us by that as well so it's not just us.

You could never be techinally described as American but I would probably say that you are South American because that is more accurate.

The name of the country is called the United States of America!! Each state has it's own name. However we see ourselves as a country that country is called the United states of America. Hence the name Americans.
Peru is in the south America Continent. Therefore you can call yourselves a Southern American and you would be correct. Canada is in the north American Continent therefore they can call themselves Northern Americans and be correct. There are two of them. We on the other hand can call ourselves Americans because that is the name of our country we don't even need to specify north or south because being a super power the world knows where it's localed.
