How long can a green card holder stay out of US territory. I have heard six months.?

I also read about the reentry permit (form I-131) to avoid the "abandonment" and replace need for reentry visa. But it also says for less than one year the green card will suffice. Also, iy mrntions the "continuity" mandatory time to qualify for citizenship later. There is another form to keep that hope alive. I am so confused.

Answer:
i know with a green card a person must be in the US at least 6 months out of a year.

i don't know about the other forms, but i am sure there is a way to keep the continuiety going if it is for good reason.

the break doesn't count if you are out of the country for reasons like employment with a US based company or the US government or military duty.
6 Months, if its more than that you need a travel permit
I also heard six months. It's better for you to keep coming to the states at least twice a year and not to loose the green-card. After 4 years you can apply for a citizenship.
6 months and I believe you are referring to form N-470 but you usually have to show that you are benefiting the US economy etc.
