Is it legal for my first green card interview to ask me to leave the room in order to interview my wife alone?
Answer:
It is perfectly legal for them to want to interview your wife alone. Most likely what they will do is ask you each the same questions individually to see if you answer the same. Since "for immigration purposes only" relationships have become more common they need to obtain as much evidence as possible that the relationship is real and not fake.
Yes to both of your questions, they want to know if you are really in love.Bring an attorney with you on the next interview, you'll notice they will have better attitudes.
Good luck.
your question shows a surprising lack of thought. Do you really think the Immigration folks would be so stupid, that they would do something ILLEGAL in your interview? Your question is actually quite insulting, do you realize that>?
You need to understand a lot more about who these people are and what the ethics are of government service in the United States.
If you asked me that question during an interview I would say you are not ready to live in the US yet.
Yes it is legal and they do that all the time. My experience says it's their way to stall and get more money from you and your wife. My husband and I have been married for almost 3 1/2 years and he is just now scheduled to get his green card. They always need additional information and when you provide what they asked for, they'll find something wrong with that and on and on and on! Good luck to you.
yes, they want to find out if your marriage is legit
Maybe they want to make sure your not just another person trying to scam the system. Its not like your the first immigrant to say you are married to someone. and then they find out you paid someone to go with you to answer their questions. not that you actually did this. But it does happen
totally legal !!
You gotta send them more papers proving you live together !
They always want to make sure that all the answers are legitamate.
As long as you are always telling the truth you have nothing to worry about, hon.
Peace.
Yes, it's legal and you should know why they do it like that, they want to find out, if is not a scam, asking your wife probably the same questions they ask you and to see if you give them the right answer.
