Do you think the Statue of Liberty should still be used today as a symbol of freedom & liberty?

We don't want the homeless or poor anymore and certainly not the wretched refuse!
Why in the world would we not not remove that false inscription or even take the statue down completely? It's obsolete.
Answer:
It is such a beaucratic mess to come here legally and these people are just looking for a better life. We tout our wealth and freedom and it is extremely inviting to these people that have nothing. I think if I was in the same situation, and not priveledge to be born in this great country , I would come here illegally too. I hope our government can find the kindest way possible to deal with this problem. Perhaps a new view and new president can do something to solve all these immigration issues. But there are good and bad in every culture and discrimination against one race of people is against our constitution, and the new immigrants are being discriminated against just like blacks were 35 years ago. Go figure? The statue is not holding true to it's original inception as far as I am concerned.
People misunderstand because the Statue has been constantly mnisrepresented. It's actual title is "Liberty Enlightening the World". It's about Freedom of Thought-- it's not "The Statue of Immigration." Emma Lazarus's poem confuses people. It was not in accord with the statue to begin with.
As for immigration, the lifeboat is full up now. People need to build their own boats where they are.

we do want them , and they want to be here . They just have to follow the laws and then embrace a country that has endless oppurtunity for all , atleast for now it does . If Hillary the socialist gets ellected she will end the American dream
Sure, it is still welcoming the LEGAL immigrants coming from other countries. The ILLEGAL ones sneak across the border and the statue isn't there.
Some good friends of mine earned their citizenship this morning and are very excited to be living here in the US. They come from "democratic" countries but everyone of them will tell you that there is no freedom like American freedom.
It is part of our nations history. Why in the word would you want to remove it.

Those coming here illegally are the not the same as those when my family came here.

The facts stand that there is a LEGAL way to come here into the USA and an ILLEGAL way. We still grant immigration status to MILLIONS of immigrants LEGALLY every year, so, YES it still is and always WAS a beacon of freedom and liberty.
Please, quit trying to guilt trip people into believing that illegal aliens should be here in the USA!

Well, the poem was from a contest by the local community, not legislative action.
However, it never said 'give me your law breakers.'

The ideals that the poem stands for have been all but obliterated by your greed and destruction. It has never said give us your illegal, your criminal, your murderers and rapists.

We are still the land of the free and we invite legal aliens to our country.
Not to beat us down, Not to steal our jobs, Social security, And other things they have not earned but to earn there own way and learn the freedoms and in some cases take them back to help there own country.
So we keep it it still applies however we must have stronger immigration laws and Learn to send the illegal aliens back where they came from not coddle them because someone thinks that it would be in humane to seen them back where they don't want to be. Then we don't think about that while we lock dogs, Cats, Birds, etc in in humane places keeping them where they don't want to be or hey the Wolf. Just some thoughts.

I doubt you would want those that would do you harm in your house and the United States citizens have a right to decide who comes into our house.
The inscription on the State of Liberty does not mean what you apparently think it does, do some research.
