Why do some who are backed into a corner about immigration always use the arguement: Well the indians?
Well to that I say -- If the Europeans never came here or at least conquered the west the Mexicans would never have learned SPANISH.
And the USA would not be the USA that they come in droves to plant themselves down for the long haul. See, welfare and medical attention would basically consist of beads and a witch-doctor.

America was built on immigration and should stay that way. The United States is known as a melting pot of cultures. Why take away the symbolism of cultures that make up this one of a kind country? It's a mockery to the people who immigrated here throughout our country's history and spilled their blood from the Revolutionary War to the conflict in Iraq today to keep this country free. If we want to wall up our country to keep everyone out, then what purpose of symbolism does the Statue of Liberty serve? Would the government then be any different from terrorists in deflating the symbolism of this country by taking her down?
The indigenous people of the Americas (North and South America) were here first. This was their land. They were kind enough at first, to share the land with the first waves of European colonists. The European invasion of the Americas forever changed the lives, bloodlines and cultures of the peoples of the continent.
I find it ironic how many people find it wrong and sick how we treated African Americans as slaves, or how the Holocaust was a tragedy, but we yet don't recognize the indigenous people of this continent who were victims of genocide in respect to the many political or military measures that some European governments made to help further colonize the Americas. Aztec, Mayan, Native American populations were ravaged by disease, by the privations of displacement, and in many cases by warfare with some European groups that later enslaved them.
No, America wouldn't be America if the indigenous people of this continent didn't open their borders to us. I think in all do respect, America should continue to keep it's borders open because it was what America was founded on.
They have no valid reasoning so they bring up the malicious things we've done in the past. In all fairness, they've got no room to talk because technically, Mexicans aren't Native American Indians.
first north American immigrants came from Europe and Asia, there is proof of this.
The Native American Indian people did not (could not) control their borders and let unmitigated the influx of foreign people settling on land that was theirs.
They lost their land and their their culture.
Maybe because the caucasian people (spain, US, British, etc) have a past history of moving on to other people's territory and calling it their own.
All those colonies from colonial times, that's just a nicer way of saying stolen lands from a time where slavery was the "in" thing.

that would be like a person getting caught with drugs arguing that they were legal in the 1800s. who cares, the rules have changed and we all have to live in the now. so any argument about indians or jews or whoever had their land stolen is irrelevant.
Just like their argument is weak so is yours. Everyone knows that America is the product of immigration no one is arguing that. And to say that only Europeans have contributed to the greatness of America is stupid also.
Here is the fact. We are debating about illegal immigration which by definition is a crime. We need to control our borders to keep us secured, from security issues and economic issues.
This debate looses all its purpose when we begin to assimilate illegal and legal immigration together, and this is where pro-illegal immigration lobby wins.

So the Mexicans wouldn't have existed; this doesn't negate the fact that the Indians DID exist, and were here first. I don't REALLY think you need an explantion of this, but just in case you do, there it is. The immigrants from Mexico, legal or otherwise, aren't doing a THING that the Europeans as a whole haven't already done, only the Mexicans are a lot more peacful! It has happened in countless societies through history, sometimes peacefully, sometimes not, and I'm sure will happen again. We're nothing special in that respect - just part of a cycle.
The next time a Mexican tells you it was their land first you'll be far more well informed after reading this info in this link.

additional - If they are defending Native Americans that is one thing. But since the majority of them use us Native Americans to justify why illegals should be given legal status and amnesty (because other Europeans who migrated legally) then they can however stop speaking on our behalf when they say that all others are illegal too. That argument makes them sound ignorant to history.

Does their language of origin really matter that much? I mean, you and your attitude are mearly fueling those who would make that claim. Many in South America and Mexico are mostly of Native blood...and some feel about their land much the same as the Basques or the Kurds or the Isrealis and Palestinians. Their point is that they don't want parts of this country to be the United States anymore! And you are merely fueling it by acting like an ignorant jack ***.
Aside from the fact that beads and witch doctors might be a good deal better than they get in their home countries...you are seriously underestimating native medicine and social welfare systems. Many of the tribes would have put us to shame if they were intact today.

understand the complete lack of genocide. I'm concerned
though by the lack of understanding that the peoples of the
Americas are taking their land back through migration and
propagation. The great European adventure is not only

It's like the old Superman show. The bad guy empties his gun shooting at him, to no avail, so in a last ditch desperate attempt to try and do at least some bit of harm, he throws the gun at him as well. Which, of course, never did any harm either.
The "Everyone is an immigrant except the Indians" argument is the empty gun. They just are either too ignorant, or just to desperate to see how little sense this makes. The issue is ILLEGAL immigration. The founding fathers came over here before there were any immigration laws of course and the majority of the rest of our ancestors were more than likely LEGAL immigrants so their argument simply doesn't hold up.
The Native American Indians migrated to the U.S. just like everyone else did, they just migrated to the New World sooner. What was done to the Indian population in the U.S. was no worse than what was done in Mexico, Brazil, or any other New World Country.it was ALL bad. Should we be sympathetic to the Indian population in the U.S.? Are the Mexicans sympathetic? The Brazilians? The Canadians?

This country was founded on legal immigration. never did you hear from the Lithauanians, the Italians , the germans, polish about SSI or about learning the language like today. They made it in this country and well deserved. They didn't complain they just did. There was a sense of pride, not any more it's what can I get.

I am a descendant of a full-blood Indian woman, married first to a full-blood Indian male, killed in war. The woman then married a man who was a full-blood Scot, determining their "blood quantum" to be half Indian and half Scot. Two of their children married full-blood Indians; which meant any of their issue was determined, "genetically", to be one-half Indian. One of their children married a "white" man, determining her children to be only one-fourth Indian. If the children of that marriage did not marry an Indian, the blood-quantum is reduced even lower.
Eastern Indians, especially the Cherokee, were successful farmers and businessmen. They had developed their own government, established a newspaper, owned steamship companies, operated financially secure plantations.

Spanish-speaking children in American schools hope their teachers don't speak or understand Spanish. They can call you or any student what they want, and no one will understand what they are saying. The American education system is promoting and advocating a Hispanic culture; relegating English to a sub language.
The public schools of America could be a catalyst in deterring illegal immigration; but, they won;t. Why? Because every public school in America depends upon "average daily attendance" to support their Federal and state funds. Federal legislation, passed under President Bush and his "lovely" librarian wife, Laura, has forced the public schools of America to "cater" to Hispanics. Public schools are being forced to offer English as a Second Language, with millions of dollars being earmarked for this. I submit the public schools should be "forced" to offer Spanish as a "first language". Give us English-speaking people an opportunity to "speak back" to these "Mexicans" who call our mothers "putas".
The Indians are doing very well today. Indian casinos made twice as much money last year compared to casinos in Las Vegas. Hispanics, keep spending your money in our casinos!
