Were the pilgrims really the first illegal immigrants?
Answer:
Why ask the question, then answer it yourself. What exactly would be your point?
As you have so thou roughly pointed out, the pilgrims defied the laws in place and moved into other countries, so yes they were illegal immigrants. Were they the first, who knows. I doubt it, considering civilizations existed long before the pilgrims and I would assume that people disregarded those civilizations laws as well.
Two wrongs do not make a right, besides, i would guess that Amsterdam and the Native Americans were not footing the bill for the medical care (Emergency Rooms) and schooling for the Pilgrims.
No, the Sumerians were.
Probably not, some other person or group probably migrated illegally before them.
Nothing, I don't think they would.
the pilgrims might have not been the "first" illegal immigrants, but there were illegal nevertheless. if they weren't illegal for going to america they sure were when going from england to amsterdam without documentation and most of all UNINVITED. but you will never hear that in a us history class..
and the pilgrims had NO INTENTION of assimilating into ANY CULTURE, rather be the dutch or the native americans. they didn't teach their children dutch nor did they want to be anything like the dutch. kind of like the illegal mexicans huh?
To find the answer to your question, all you have to do is ask any descendant of any North American Indian tribe, and see what they tell you. As a descendant of Native American Indians, my answer is "Yes".
What's important is respecting the laws of the country that you are emigrating to. They couldn't accept those countries laws, so they left. Good for them. Not good that they killed, stole from the natives, and exterminated them with their diseases.
YUP!!! BEFORE YOU GRINGOS THINK ABOUT DEPORTING US WE WILL BE THINKING OF DEPORTING YOU!!!!!!
PROUD TO BE MEXICAN!!!!!!!
Everytime before I jump on a European babe I say,
"Well pilgrim, your about to be immigrated to."
They love it!
ah thanks for the history lesson. now what about 2007...you know the present...
and by the way site your sources if your going to talk history.
This is so assinine. The Vikings had been here even earlier than the American Indians but that is hardly the point, is it?! You all seem to believe that before a nation was organized and a government formed that all people from Europe were illegal. Were we asking the inhabitants for jobs or welfare or education for our children and demanding that those we came in contact with had to learn our language? My God, you people will try to compare apples to oranges ad infinitum, won't you? My daddy had it right when he said some people are so ignorant theat they'll argue with a billboard. He was right!
The greatest thing that ever happened to the American Indian was that Europeans found North America. If that had not happened they still be chasing buffalo across the plains and killing each other with bow and arrow. That they love "firewater" too much is not the fault of the white-man.
We took their land and turned it into the greatest Country the world has ever seen.
In fact they retain their own Nations . . . such that they are.
