What Do U think Pilgrim's Pride If they can't verify the Social Security number, they have to find another job
"If they can't verify the Social Security number, they have to find another job," Hispanic community activist Gabriella Zavalla said. "Some of them they are giving three days notice, and others they are giving eight days notice, but it's affecting a lot of people. One day in the morning (the Nacogdoches plant) laid off 40 people, then in the afternoon they let another 20 people go. Then one day it was about 100 people."
Answer:
Excellent. I am glad to hear that one company is taking responsibility for the people they hire. And, I might add being very kind in giving them three to eight days notice before letting them go because they cannot prove their ss number is good. Very, very good. Hopefully more companies will take similar action.
it could be troublesome--i had to have my parents mail me mine when i moved.
but overall, pretty efficient and effective.
they are lucky they aren't calling ICE.
Make room, make room.Don't block the flood gates at the personnel office! Or the chapter 11 docket,or rather chapter 7...Make sure you guys don't turn your backs on the co
I have never once been asked for my SS card, but you bet your ***, if I had to or lose my job, I would have the card there tomorrow. I know exactly where it is.
In fact my wife, who was an illegal knows exactly where hers is too. If you are an immigrant and you lose your docs, you get screwed. I don;t feel bad for the one person in your story who may have actually lost his /her paperwork
Am I supposed to feel bad for illegals who gave fake SS #'s .
Billy
What choice do they have?
I went to a Pilgrims Pride plant one day. There were alot of people there that I perceived as illegal immigrants. It took about 3 or 4 people before I could find one that could speak English.
I always keep my SS card with me in my wallet, plus a copy at home in case my wallet is stolen, so no worries here. If you call me "Pilgrim", can I call you "Conquistador", Pedro?.
I think this is great! It is about time employers took a stand and start doing what is right. More employers need to follow in their footsteps. I will support Pilgrim's Pride by buying their products.
They expected our government to verify in 24 hours whether an illegal was a criminal or not if the reform bill had passed. What makes this any different, other than this company is now rectifying a wrong they knew they committed. Besides I heard that all businesses were going to have to start using the data base to verify all their workers for legal status in the future. This one just happens to have a jump on it.
I understand that three day notice etc would be AFTER having been given 30 days to clear up the SS department bouncing their number.
