My husband is sponsoring his parents and we are filling out the I-864 forms I need help with a question Please
You see we got two forms to file one for each of his parents
do we have to select that option joint sponsors? Thanks
Answer:
Wonderful form, isn't it?
Your husband should complete a separate I-864 for each parent. In Part Three, if he and you together will be able to provide financial support for the entire family, including both of you, any children, and the two parents, at 125% of federal poverty guidelines, he should check "yes." He would only check the other box if you can't support them at that level and if you have recruited two other individuals to also commit to supporting his parents, and they have completed I-864s for them.
Still a little confusing, isn't it? Sorry!
I looked up the I-864 and wow! and I thought tax forms were bad!
However, the way the instructions read, you should fill out one I-864 form, with the primary immigrant information in item 2, and the spouse in part 3. ("If the spouse and/or children will be traveling with the immigrant, or within six months of the immigrant's entry to the United States and you are sponsoring them, you should list the names and other requested information on the lines provided.")
Joint sponsors = if your husband cannot meet the income qualification to sponsor his parents, a joint sponsor who does meet the income qualification can submit the I-864. See "What Is a Joint Sponsor?" on page 3 of the form in the instructions.
