We all ready belong to alot of defense alliance. Thats what NATO is. We belong to several others. We are creating one incase of war with China, We have just ask India to join in. Ironically, Russia and China has created an alliance with each other, in case of war with the US and India is already a part of the talks.
We don't need it. The problem today, is that US is too powerful. Since we are so powerful, we are most likely to go to war.
The Alliance you are talking about sound like the North America Union, that some are talking about. Its basically strengthening NAFTA. NAFTA was a bad idea, and further economic alliance with MExico, would make matters worse. The world does not need greater globilization. IF you listen to those on both sides of the Immigration arguement, we basically agree in NAfta, as a major reason illegal immigration is such a problem. Our cheap subsidized grains are bankrupting Mexican corn growers, as well as Hondaran Rice farmers. Their cheap labor is causing econommics worries here. Globilization has cause a greater envronmental damage. By miving production in developing nation, we just move polution out of our countries and into theres, and at a greater rate.

A global war will be a nuclear war. Its that simple and no alliance will help solve that.
We are basically an island. The only super power that can harm us are the Chinese, Russians, Britons and French.
And considering that a global war will mean that 2 or more of these super powers being eliminated, it will be safe to say that there will not be a global war.
However, do not feel that there will not be a nuclear war. As soon as Korea or Iran develop a working nuke they are going to use it or threaten to use it on us.
Then we will have a nuclear war. But it will not be global.
An alliance brings us no benefits and strains our economy and resources even further.
It would never work because the U.S., just because of our makeup would want to be boss... and they have two other countries to consider... nope.. wouldn't work.. end up in bad feelings all around
I don't want anything to do with Any Alliance! It's just another way for big business to try and rip is off! NO NO NO!
Having allies isn't the issue, it is integrating our economies (NAFTA was bad enough) and blurring independent sovereignty of very differing cultures, and giving access to our overcrowded schools and overstrained hospitals in return for a chance to exploit Mexican oil, all without consent of the American people. Ordinary Americans don't consider the oil worth our independence and managing inflow to our overstressed infrastructure. Go to spp.gov for the bland but indisputable version. And the immigration bill at p. 210 would pass a 'sense of congress' that the SPP should be 'accelerated' when it was never even brought before Congress and debated as a treaty. Back room agreements really don't sit well. That is one of the problems with the immigration bill.
There already is a North American defense.
If the SPP is a good idea, it should be brought to congress and hashed out where we can all hear where the government is going with this and what our protections will be.
