When you "push 1 for English" or "2 for Spanish"...?
Hispanics say that their language is on there "to make it fair", well, I don't see a fairness to any other language.
Answer:
Because Hispanics are the lazy ones that don't want to learn the language here.
...this being the United States, why should I have to push "one" for English anyhow....?
well that's because spanish is the second most spoken language in america.
because they can go back to their country and get the phone call in their language and english is on 1 cause we are numbah1
It's up to individual companies (or agencies) what percentage of the population they want to support.
If a company loses business because they don't support customers with different native languages, that's the company's choice and their loss. Such is the nature of a free market economy.
because there are more spanish speaking people than any other. but yet they still want to know why we are always picking on just the mexicans. dee dee dee
there shouldnt be any other option besides ENGLISH we are in AMERICA! learn the freaken language!
Well if Chinese, Russian, Korean, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Italian, Sweedish and other languages were the second language of this country then there would probably be a button for them as well. Anyways if you contact someone in english and ask for a ..... translator they always have one.
In the U. S. A., it should be english, and english only.
When it says , "push 1 for English" or "2 for Spanish" I hang up and don't do business when whomever that is....you either do English and get my business or dont' and DON"T!
All those people who want a diverse world forget this aspect of it. Not only 1 0r 2 and how about all food labels isn't it a form of discrimination to have them just in spainsh where is the labels
for Chinese, Russian, Korean, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Italian, Sweedish and the other languages? Why don't they put their money where their mouth is
I believe there shouldn't be a choice. For Pete's sake it's the US of A man!!!! My parents learned the language before they came over. Why can't others do it?
Because too many Hispanics are either too lazy or too stupid to learn English. All of those other nationalities learn English, so they don't need things fed to them in their language.
There should not even be this option. English in America. When I travel to another country I don't expect them to speak my language. If I were to sneak across the boarder to another country I wouldn't expect them to speak my language. Americans are saps, at least some of us for being such bleeding heart idiots.
Good point!
Countries that have been conquered many times, like Belgium, Morocco, and South Africa, speak several languages and have those silly "push 1 for _______" buttons.
Everywhere I've lived abroad, including in South America, there is only one major language in the country. And everyone either speaks it, translates to it, or gets along the best way they can, without even THINKING of demanding communication in their own mother tongue.
For example, in Buenos Aires, the only place you're guaranteed to hear English is at T.G.I.Fridays at Puerta Madera, and that's only on Tuesday nights when they have the American drink specials!
This map:

will show which languages are spoken where in the U.S. When you look at it, you will see that Spanish is spoken the most after English. After that, it looks like Mandarin Chinese and Hindu, but there's a huge percentage difference between Spanish and Chinese.
Very good question..
jajajajaja....How sensitive....
business are business... America´s #1 quotation
If they do it, it´s because is good for their business, no because they want to be fair....
Agreed. We should not give "Spanish" special treatment. It's ridiculous. They just want to make it easy on illegals.
It raises my blood pressure. I would never THINK of going to a foreign country and expect them to adopt my language.
I really don't care what a relegious community does ( Catholic was Hebrew(I think() Then Business went to English) Now we have this problem....not for the ELITE but for the AVERAGE citizen. It crossed the line. It used to be relegious text was in Hebrew or Greek, Medicine was Latin......that's fine if that is your study.....but it's not OK when average people in ANY country have to speak ANY specific language to get a BASIC job in their OWN country!
I've been wondering that myself!!!
Why are Hispanics getting special treatment?????????????
Are they the only immigrants in the US??????? NOPE!!!!!!!!
There should be no, I repeat NO "push 1 for English, 2 for Spanish"!!!
I don't push 1 and I still get English, lol...
I hear you.
I'd like it to go like this: #1 if you speak English, #2 if you don't. Push 2 and it hangs up on you!
Where did you get the thought that it had anything to do with "fair"?
It has to do with being politically correct. It has to do with getting cheap labor for big business.
The people that I know that are from a former Russian state speak better English than most Americans that I know. Cambodians that live near by all speak English. Same thing for those that come over from African countries.
Maybe they have a problem learning the language of the country that they il/legally are in? I don't know, but an interesting question.
Considering all the cost that this is putting on our country in the form of having to have ESL classes, extra paper for the same thing written in English to be written in Spanish, etc. you would think that the cost factor is going to be figured in eventually, even by the PC crowd.
Everyone you listed above is in the minority (Russians, Chinese, Koreans, French..) English and Spanish are the 2 most speaking languages in the US of A. By the way I am in the minority.
