With the influx of illegal immigration, do you really feel like a country?

It seems to me that borders are required in order to be a country. So I propose our new name be the North American Free Trade Zone or NAFTZ. What are some good names or labels that you can think of for our territory? Maybe we can be a country again, I just dont think it will be the USA. I know there are many questions here and no easy answers. I dont know if I even care anymore.

Answer:
Up until now, unless I am wrong, all immigrants in the past have assimilated as a cohesive group of citizens of the United States otherwise known as Americans. Now we have people entering the country who celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but not the fourth of July. I think this is a perfect example of intentionally keeping yourself apart. If a person from another country, regardless of that country wants to live here, then they need to become a living part of this country, supporting it, and contributing to it. While I cannot know the hardship there must be in leaving your own homeland you may still love even though you feel you must come to the U.S. A.., if you are going to make a move like that, then a new attitude of contributing and becoming a part of the country needs to take place. On the same thought though, shame on our country for making it so long and difficult for those who trully want to become a part of this great nation.
How about "The Americans That Started Off As Immigrants But Refuse To Remember This" ?

It's kind of long but I think it shows the point.
I don't think that there's a sudden influx. I just think that it is being addressed a whole lot now where it wasn't before.ue to other circumstances such as terrorism and the war.
It makes me feel fortunate that I was born here, due to the fact that so many people want to live here. But I agree, you don't have a country if you don't have controlled boders.
Well, the republicans were in charge the last 6 years of every branch of government from the senate, to the house, and the president and they did NOTHING absolutely NOTHING to stop or slow down illegals coming into this country. Now that they are here, it's stupid to think the day will come when someone will just round them up and take them back. All those who voted the repubs into office the past few years now have to lay in the bed they made when it comes to illegals
You almost got it right. The new name will be North American Union if certain people get their way. Made up from Canada, USA, and Mexico. It is already planned and they are trying to get it in place as soon as possible. It is being done for the convenience and profit of the wealthy, and none of us will have any real rights or freedoms, and no national sovereignty. Do you still not care? By the way--this is the reason our immigration laws are not being enforced. This was also the reason for the amnesty bill.

I don't know what's all the fuss. The only reason illegal immigrants are illegal is because someone doesn't want them in a country. Now, if I recall correctly, a person has certain rights. One is freedom of movement, the other is a freedom of choice. Thus, one should be free to move from country to country and choose whatever nationality suits him (or her).

The function of borders of a certain country is thus not to keep people out or in. It's just to say that this far and no further (than the border designates) is where the government of that certain country can protect its citizens and their property, except if there are some other arrangements with other governments (etc. where things get murky and are not relevant to this discussion).
A country, by definition , has borders. I resent your suggestion that we give in to criminal aliens and big corporations who would have us do exactly as you suggest. If you are not willing to fight for the USA and keep it as our own then I suggest you get out. We are NOT going to give up. We ARE going to control our borders and eliminate the illegals. We are NOT going to be part of any half as$es union with anybody, least of all a $hithole country like Mexico.
I think Americans remember that we all started as immigrants, but the HUGE difference is our ancestors became legal citizens and waited in LONG lines for these rights. It is very ignorant to make a comment that we forgot where we came from. I am sure you would feel much differently if your life was directly impacted by illegal action. It is amazing to me that people get upset about cars speeding down the residential streets because the speed limit is the law, but do not make issue of someone stealing an identity of a child and using their SSN to gain employment?
Kudo's William I agree. The argument of "we are all immigrants" is getting old. My ancestors may have been immigrants but they were legal and back then there were no immigration laws, so you need to compare apples and apples. Learn English and take pride in the country that is taking care you cause apparently Mexico is not doing it.
Well...I'm in the heart of illegalville here in the Southwest, and I still feel like we're a Country. I always like to say: "I'm from New Mexico...what country are y'all from?"
I feel as if we're a country unraveling. I live in Az. and most of the time I step outside my door,I feel like i'm in mexico.
I think we can change that though with new state laws coming out and continued fighting against the NAU mob. We made our country great once before and we can do it again,we are Americans after all.
Tower of babel?
