Has any American ever done the Fiance' (k-1) visa in order to bring their Ghananian finance to the states?
Answer:
My brother actually,
He filed:
- Form I-129F(Petition for Fiance) $170, price will go up
-G-325A (Biographic information)-Its 4 pgs, you need 2 sets one for you and one for your fiance. All 4 pages have the same questions because each page goes to different offices.
-Passport photos
-Birth Certificates
You can download the forms and instructions thru www.uscis.gov, read the instructions in case there's something else missing.
He mailed everything out, around May 2006, through certified mail, he made copies to keep for his files.
After that he received a letter, kind of like a certificate, which had a receipt number. Then around August he received a letter that they needed more proof that they've actually known each other for 2 years. So, he sent copies of letters when they wrote to each other, gift receipts, phone cards (lucky for him he actually kept them) bus tickets or vehicle permits, pictures. He also sent optional items, (like their religious wedding, certificate, pictures, video) that were not needed, since they wanted proof prior to the submittion of the forms.
He sent all that around mid September and a week later he received a letter stating that the Petition was approved and that the petition was sent to the US embassy for further process. A month later, he received a packet of instructions of what his fiance or wife was going to need for her interview at the consulate in Juarez, Mexico (she's from Mexico). What she needed to do was get a medical exam ($150), birth certificates (again), make a deposit of $100 to one of the Mexican banks, her passport. After that, they both went to the consulate at Juarez, Mexico around five in the morning, they were not required to set up an appointment. She went in by herself then her Visa was issued (K1 Visa) then they were sent to one of the port of entries, here in El Paso, Texas we have 3 of them. They were done by eleven at night.
After they received the Visa they had 90 days to get married through the court.
After that they're now applying for:
-I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status $325
-I-130 Petition for a relative $190, I'm not sure why they have to file this one
-I134 Affidavit of Support $0
You might want to set up an appointment thru "infopass" at the website to see what other forms you need, or if there are other ways to submit the forms. She was approved right away since she's never been her illegaly and because she was a teacher where she lived.
He still in this process so I don't know what the outcome will be. But hope this helps
