If i'm married to a us citizen would i become a citizen?

i'm a non immigrant that married to a us citizen would i become a citizen

Answer:
i'm non immigrant i moved here to USA 1 year ago.(Married with a citizen) with a k-3 visa. i'm still waiting for my permanent resident, i went through all the process. they'll give me the permanent resident for 3 years and then i have to apply for US CITIZEN.
NO> you still have to go thru the process.
of course but you have to go through the process
faster than Fed Ex delivery service...
not automatically...you have to go through the whole rigmarole legal stuff to get it...and while waiting for the citizenship...you cant divorce him/her unless for good cause.
No you wouldn't. You would have your passport and VISA which the VISA will have to be renewed. You will have to go through the process of citizenship.
by non-immigrant, does this mean your are a tourist? or on a student visa??
I truly do not know. I think you should ask the immigration department. Why didn't you find this information out before you got married? Your offspring is automatically a US citzen if he/she is born in the good old USA.
yes you would.
absolutely not,,,,,,,I married a man from another country. It took 7 years to get his green card. Alot of money, time. And had to submit paperwork 3x's cause they lost his paperwork twice. Then you have to be married 3 years to a citizen before you can apply for citizenship. If you can afford a lawyer to help you out. That is faster.
Not obtaining the necessary documents for legal immigration status, you're only an illegally, legal alien.
Leon,

I'm sorry to say that your citizenship is not automatic. If you met and married your wife overseas, she needs to get your paperwork started with the State Department, the INS, and the Embassy in your country to get you into the States legally, I'm not sure which department does it anymore, but the Embassy can get you a Visa to travel to the States with your wife.

If you are here now, you'd better find out what paperwork you need to file because you could be deported for being here illegally, EVEN THOUGH you're married to a citizen.

If you're still in your home country, get on the phone to the US Consulate as they handle Visas. Ask them what is required to get your application for citizenship started so you don't break the law. They will get you the proper paperwork, and it will most likely start out as a travel VISA for a set period of time. Once you get to the States, don't waste any time getting your VISA converted over to permanent residency status.

This has been all over the US news lately, people, so unless you really know what you're talking about, don't give people answers that are going to get them into trouble.

Good luck.
Yes, but you certain steps needed to be taken. First, your US citizen spouse should petition for you to be admitted to the US. Second, you have to reside in the US for three years and then you have to apply for citizenship. If your application is approve, then you can be a US citizen.
It's not automatic. There is still a process for you to go through. A family friend married someone who was born and raised in Ireland, but she moved here for school... After they married, they had 2 kids born here, and she still had to go through a process... She passed her citizenship test this year and was sworn in as a American citizen. I think it might be a personal thing, but she doesn't like being called Irish-American or anything else other than American.
Well if u entered the US legally with a visa/permission then yes u can apply for residency but citizenship will take longer. However if u entered w/o permission (illegally) then u must return to your country of origin and apply from there. It may take 6-18 months in your own country. Good luck!
