Why was my husband's driver's license application sent for 'foreign documentation'?

He's been a green card holder for 20 years. I don't know why they have to send it away. The DMV said it was something to do with the Patriot Act and that his license will be sent to him.....any ideas what this is? Thanks.

Answer:
Many states have enacted laws to comply with the Patriot Act, which in part requires that states prove that people holding licenses are in the country legally. Each state can make its own rules how it wants to do that. I would ask the person at the DMV to give you something in writing that says what your husband needs to show to get the license. If you don't get anywhere, talk to a supervisor. It works sometimes, especially since this is all new for everyone, including the DMV.
Never heard of it
Never heard of that but I think some states may be making an outward "show" of security to look good because people are upset. Sorry but I think even a hollow outward show is better than nothing.
