What if i' m a non-immigrant an i got married to a us citizen would i become a us citizen?

Answer:
Not automatically, no .. but you will have the right to apply for citizenship

*** tweetymay below...I wondered that too...but then there is an option you didn't mention... marrying a US citizen abroad...I supposed that was the meaning.
Yes, you'd get a green card but there are restrictions. You have to stay married for a certain amount of time. Alot of people will use the green card to bypass the immigration process, it's quicker and easier.
Umm, if you are a "NON-immigrant", wouldn't you be a citizen?

You are either a citizen born here or naturalized, a legal immigrant or an illegal immigrant.

I have never heard of a NON-immigrant.
No.

It used to be years ago that that was the case, but so many illegals came in and married Americans for the sole purpose of citizenship that the US had to change the law.

Applying for citizenship once you are married to an American will not fix your problem, either, if you are here illegally as the INS can deport you -- and your spouse -- until your proper paperwork has been approved; in other words you and your spouse will be removed to your home country until your LEGAL application has been approved. (They wouldn't 'deport' your American citizen spouse, but they would encourage him/her to leave town with you while your paperwork got handled. And it it's marriage 'for love,' spouse shouldn't have a problem with that.

You will NOT automatically get a green card. I guess no one saw or read in the news recently about the American Serviceman missing in Iraq? His wife is an illegal alien and Uncle Sam came to deport her, even though they had been married for years. Her husband's family and friends hired attorneys who went to court for her with the argument that, Her husband is MISSING in Iraq. DON'T add this stress to this family. Judge granted her absolution and the State issued her a green card for the sake of her soldier husband.

Your best bet is to get here on a tourist VISA for six months, or a Student VISA, and once you get here, apply for citizenship.

PS: The whole interview you after a year thing, I saw that movie too, but they don't do that anymore and they haven't done the interview thing in many years.
they'd give you a permit to stay for a year in the country, and after that the immigration deptartment shall interview the both of you seperately. If they are convinced that the marriage is for real and not fake then you get a permit to stay for another 2 years upto 4 years depending on their mood. During this period you both shall be interviewed atleast once a year. After that you get your perminant green card. Upon reciept of your permenant green card you may apply for your american passport (that makes you a citizen of the US). the whole procedure takes from 5yrs to 12yrs depending on several matters. But on an average 10yrs is the case. Some do recieve their passports after 15yrs of marriage. So you ought to really hold on to your wife bro.
No, you can't even apply for citizenship until you have been married 3 years. If you are adjusting status, depends on if your here illegal or not. first step you would file an I-130, then you would need to file a affidavit of support. Thats after you have been approved for the I-130. Then adjustment of status is a I-485. Not sure what the fine is, again if your illegal. Used to be $1000.00 fine. Then you may have to go to the country of your origin to pick up a visa
If by non-immigrant, you mean that you married a US citizen in another country, then that citizen would have to sponsor you to become a US citizen or to enter legally into the United States. It is not a short and easy process and could take some time. Good luck!
from what i know you do but you have to go back to your native country. If I'm not mistaking you have to be there for 6 mths to a year.you also have to pay a fine during that process.Just remember that once this happens it will be a while longer before your even consider you a U.S Citizen.
