Has anyone that is a US citizen married an Italian in Italy?

well, if there is an italian who wants to marrie you he could easily obtain a permit to stay in Italy, for you, if he could find you a job.
Then there would be rather few obstacles to get married, just few signatures.

Instead, if you were asking about the ceremony, the religion here is catholic (obviously) bet there's freedom of cult, and so there are many protestant churches, and other religious buildings where to get married.
