Good for Arnold! Too bad we can't have him run for President. He seems more loyal than the one we have in office now. All immigrants should not only speak English but be able to read, write and understand it as well. I think we should fine all businesses that hire people who can't speak English and if we go into a store where the people can't speak English, we should talk to the manager and refuse to purchase anything. It's time for Citizens to stand up and be counted and have our way. Arnold has more integrity in his little finger than most of congress has in their combined lives.
i think that not matter what country you are in you should know at least, 'hello', 'please', and 'thank you'. and if you plan to move there and dont know the language. try to learn it.

No but it makes it difficult for us to understand them and for them to understand us. That can be a problem if we need to tell them that they can't be here illegally. Then we have to hire translators and stuff.
It's just always good to know at least some of the language of the country you are visiting. Illegally or not.
People should at least come here and speak some English. They're the ones coming here. I shouldn't have to learn many languages just for their convenience.
There is no integrity in politics. its all about getting in power and staying in power. Most immigrants, legal or otherwise, have no knowlege of the language when they arrive. But they learn or not. Their childern learn and their grandchildren are almost exclusively speakers of their now native country.

No Because they are illegal, what matters is that they are captured jailed and deported. Look Spanish is good in Mexico. French is good in France, do not go there speaking English or poor French. If Spanish speakers want to speak Spanish do it in a Spanish speaking country. Which usually infers poverty, a weak government and little chance to break the continuation of the same. It seems few are willing to be politically active in their respective countries so they come here and make demands. Cart them off like other scatters, screaming Spanish all the way back to Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico and anywhere else south of the border.
I'm pro immigration reform but still believe they need to speak English.If only for their own safety and personal needs.Let's say I'm woken in the middle of the night to someone banging on my door and yelling.But in a different language.I'm a woman alone with kids in my house.Do you think I'm going to open my door to someone yelling outside it?Heck no!But I will call the police.What if the person was only injured really bad and begging me to help but I didn't understand them.So they bled to death on my doorstep while I was waiting for police.I would feel horrible that I as an RN hadn't helped.Is that fair to me to live with this guilt?No it's not.Learning English is for their benefit.If they choose to speak their language among each other no problem.But they must learn to speak the basic language of the land to further opportunities and safety for themselves.

Look it doesn't matter who said what. If you are going to live in any country you should learn to speak the native language. It is just respectful to do so. I would at least learn the basics of their language before I travelled to live in a non English speaking country and go from there.

I am an immigrant from the Caribbean, A legal one at that. I came to this country legally but I have friends who are not so fortunate to live the American dream like I am living.
I came here with nothing but the clothes on my back as I wanted a change in my life. I applied for a visa, bought a ticket and came to the US. I was given six months to stay and I couldn't work and i didn't work as I never wanted to get caught working and face removal..
I was a registered nurse at the time ,and by accident I met a director from a top hospital in NY, We got into talking and he offered me a sponsoring position in the hospital, i went through the legal channel and got my working documents, but my six months was up and I had to return to the Caribbean, I did, and came back a few months later and this time I got clearance to work for the hospital for five years. I worked their for over 10 yrs while i went back to college and earn my degrees . I have been in this country for over 25 years now. I no longer work at the hospital but I have my own business now and doing very well.
I can speak English, French, Spanish, Hindi, German and Arabic.
I have travelled all over the world , but I love the US and has always come back. I am a naturalized citizen now and all my kids are American Citizens.
Give the illegal immigrants a chance to assimilate, and in time they will. It's not very easy learning a different language, especially when you're an adult
