Local newspaper has let it slip that eu workers can claim family tax for children living back in their home?
I think this is a disgrace that us working people are paying tax credits to children who live in poland,slovakia etc.

When we lived in germany we got kindergeld .. which equated to about £160.00 per month but your children had to live with you in order to get that ..
We should not have to pay for children who are not resident in this country and how can they prove the children are theirs .. the system is open to fraud ...
Old news - been going on for ages - life of luxury for these people isn't it.
We are a laughing stock - come to UK - have a house - have benefits - hell, we'll even send Brit taxpayers money to your offspring for you.

It's been reported some time ago. Yes, it does seem a bit odd, although would you prefer it if they brought the children here? The thing with all this is, it's reciprocal, Uk citizens in other EU countries also have some access to the benefit systems over there. That's not worth a lot if they find themselves in Greece or Poland, but there are plenty of Brits getting state assistance in Germany, Holland, etc.
I knew about this ages ago...laughing up their sleves at us Brits especailly when my own son's wife had to fight tooth and nail to get them. In fact they gave up the attempt after two years of trying.

Much like UK people who have retired to Spain or Greece etc. can claim UK heating allowance. The benefits system is a farce.

Unfortunately this is true - a friend of a friend, of mines works in a g'ment social security office in Glasgow - and processes these applications.
And it has been in the news before, in Glasgow.
The joys of the EU - and for all of you out there who discount these stories unfortunately, sometimes they are true, and for the hardworking british public it is a bitter pill to swallow!
What we should really consider is if we went there would we get the same benefits - lobby your local MP that's what they get paid for.

Its simply outrageous.
I cant get tax credits, IR say I didnt send my renewal form back in time, well I sent it in a month earlier, my word against theirs. Had no tax credits since January and fecking struggling, yet money can be sent to others OUTSIDE the countryt, I really give up.
Simple answer is to have same system throughout the USE...United States Of Europe..
i wouldnt be surprised at that, nor if all the Africans were given family tax credit for all their kids back in Africa

If I'm not mistaken but aren't EU workers paying tax as well. The pay standard income tax, VAT, council tax. So why shouldn't they be allowed to claim tax credits for supporting their family as the tax credit scheme is set up for.
These people aren't working in their home country and don't claim similar social welfare payments there.
They are adding to the UK economy and adding to the the UK's government funds. I think you'll find they are giving alot more to the UK government than what they are getting from the government.
