If you are thinking of emigrating to Oz, perhaps you should try to make a visit there.
I've visited 3 times and from what I've seen, it is a great place and only met nice people (but I do have many friends living there - Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide). My Gt. Gt. grandparents emigrated there back in the late 1850's as free settlers - unfortunately Gt. grandad came back to England which is why I'm here. 3x Gt. uncle went out to the Wellington Valley in chains!
Don't know about crime figures, and of course they pay taxes
Sydney much cleaner than London and we didn't feel as threatened when walking the streets at night even in the dodgier areas. Life felt "more free" and well-developed outdoor activities.
House construction is different - more along the lines of NZ and California and, I believe, like NZ, there is always a laundry built in. Cookers are standard items and left behind when you move, I think.
We nearly emigrated there back in the 60's - my husband was offered a job in Melbourne, but duty towards ageing parents made us rethink. Time over again we would probably have gone.

Hehe they are telling the truth! Australia is cleaner and safer, has better weather, less chance of being stabbed walking down the street, everything is cheaper - you can actually buy or build a house without working until you are 100, and the people are nicer! As an aussie living in London I should know. But at the same time, it can be a small-minded place, with less opportunities in the arts in particular. Health care and education isn't perfect, but still of an extremely high standard and way better than the US. Still I know I will live in Australia when I 'settle down' because it is so beautiful and it is home.
well, I have only tavelled there, but it has it's good and bad points. For one, they have no gangs of youths that I saw (except surfy dudes), the house prices are much cheaper, everyone is friendlier, the weather is better, it's cleaner. bad side, mossies, no sunday roasts, the flies and it's the driest continent after the antartic, and is miles away from your family and friends in the UK.

because there are more kangaroos than the people. the sad thing is when you're on the road, especially when it's dark and your speed is fast, and suddenly a kangaroo goes into your way, you cannot stop, means you have to hit the kangaroo or else it would be more dangerous for you and for the other cars behind you.
because they have to balz to stand up for themselves and not cower under false white guilt...they are trying to protect their culture instead of letting the immigrants dictate culture to them...
If the Country is so good, why are most of them over here. Don't they just love the Aboriginals. They claimed Kathy Freeman as one of their own, when she won the Gold Medal.
because Australia is mulecultral country and it gives more opportunity to the ppl who don't have much experiance and language.
Just returned form Sydney and it was great. The weather is much better than ours and the city was sooo clean. We found the people very friendly and funny. Would move there if I could.
As a dumping ground for criminals by the Brits. years ago - I am sure it evolved into a A1 place to live. --Go for it.
The Weather is great! There is only two months of the year when it is really cold - June and July. The rest of the year is either nice warm days or the summer heat of november / december through to march.
The attitude of Australians is much more laid back. Nothing bothers aussies too much - life is too short to worry about issues that dominate other countries. The politicians here are still the same wankers that you get everywhere else - but if the public ignore them long enough they will go away.
Australians also hate people who are not prepared to help themselves by hard work. Aussies despise bludgers and people who want sympathy and government handouts. Aussies cannot tolerate those who dont want to work. We hate bludgers more than we hate illegal immigrants.
And most importantly of all - there is no excuse for not having a beer. Preferably Victoria Bitter or XXXX and watching the football or the cricket at the pub.
They limit immigration.
Very lesser density of population and ample chances of utilizing untapped natural resources makes Australia so good.
Australia is soo good because its multi cultural and quite far,but its not all rosy
