They come over here and take our jobs?
Apparently there may be problems for UK farmers as no one is willing to pick strawberries. Now, as there are not enough migrant workers to pick the crop, how many people think that UK nationals will do the work instead?
The reason I ask this question is that there are an awful lot of posts about how foreign workers are here to steal jobs. (Which, I accept is a fact in some areas.) But will the unemplyed masses work if given a chance or will they blame Johnny Foreigner?

I personally believe from experience, that if you want to work, there is always work. Depends on what one is prepared to do.
It really annoys me that some people believe they are far too good to do a job which they believe is beneath them, yet it's not beneath them to claim benefits which I pay for out of my taxes!
I personally know people that moan all day long, that there are no jobs they 'want' to do, yet they also have bugger all on their CV due to not going into the work force. So it's a bit of a catch twenty two eh?
It's all excuses. I've scrubbed up spew, cleaned up blood, moped toilets, pour drinks at bars until all hours, washed up, waitressed, child minded and loads more. nothing glam like I wanted to do, but now I have a great career as a PA for a entrepreneur in fantastic firm who do give us a taste of the glam life and treat us really well... but I'll tell you something for nothing, I certainly didn't get this amazing career from moaning about not getting something like this at the first stab at employment!
If you don't know, learn. It's about wanting to get a job. There are definitely jobs out there. Oh and a 'good attitude' helps - No one owes anything to those who choose to be unemployed! That's their own choice.
we are loosing alot fo work toe foeigners especially in my field of work! and we arte loosing our farms in the UK! partyl cos it chepaer to import! if we have migrant workers they work for less money and there for british farmers can sell cheaper however ppl are demanding more pay and forced british famrers to up thier prices makes buyers go abroad

People don't come to steal jobs, they come to do jobs- there's a difference.
0Actually in some sectors they do - the government was until recently fast tracking Visas for IT skilled staff when there was a shortage of IT jobs and some 50, 000 skilled UK contractors were out of work.

ive been saying this for a long time now,cut down on immigration and make "our own" people work!
The jobs the immigrants usually do are the ones the existing out of work Britons don't want to do., as it means minimum wage and they are no better off by working than by being on benefits.The solution is for the unemployed to get skills which the immigrants don't have so that they are more likely to get the better jobs as they come along.Let the Brits be builders,plumbers.electrioians etc. and let the newcomers pick strawberries and peas and so on.
You know, I have not yet met anyone in my field of work or hear from friends or acquaintances that they have been unable to find a job because of a foreigner. If anything, I can't see anyone I know willing to work 12 hours a day picking strawberries, sifting recycled rubbish, packing factory items etc for crap pay. But this work still needs to be done and Johnny Foreigner certain contributes here.
Hey i can rememba the n.f usin more or less the excact same words in an article 25yrs ago,why should we complain about forieghn workers improving their situation,they aint doin it at our expense,a lot of bigots prefer to sponge off workin people like me,while complainin about others,make the racist work 4 it`s livin or make it go an live on a rock in the middle of the atlantic
One thing I have noticed, here in the US a lot of the work immigrants do, you can't find citizens to do it...at least not very many.
Problem is, we can't stop the illegals and they need to pay taxes but don't.
It depends on whether the farmers are willing to pay an honest wage.
The true problem is that too many employers get away with gross exploitation of workers and their rights- so the natives are clever enough not to do so.
A couple of Polish girls recently won a court case recognising the exploitation of their rights in a Scottish hotel- they were working 75 hour weeks on less than £3 an hour- something very common for migrant workers.
This is precisely why natives won't do it- the salaries are totally unfair- you pay them well enough and they'll work. Simple.
I am an employer too, by the way- but I pay my workers real wages- not work the poor sods to the bone for pittance.
Why on earth else would immigrant workers be so attractive? Simple- they're cheap and disposable and readily replaceable.
I think you've betrayed the fact that by reading the Guardian, you too are a mincing Leftist or chardonnay socialist worthy of justifiable scorn and ridicule.

EDIT: Furthermore machinery can easily replace low-skill labour as we have seen m any times in Japan with rice and tea harvesting. Japan has negligible immigration for low-skill employees- the world's no. 2 economy.
Machinery not only works out to be more efficient and cost-effective in the long-term- the obstacle is the initial capital investment which many employers choose not to make as cheap, disposable labour is more easily attainable at hand.
If employers were to invest in machinery- it would create long-term, sustainable employment and build the manufacturing sector.
Get some economic education please- social sciences remain the choice of the guilt-wracked bourgeoisie.
It's impossible to 'steal' a job. If it wasn't given to you, then it was never yours to be stolen.
If you want it, then you have to be the best applicant.
It's funny how people can actually complain about migrant workers stealing the jobs.
If you were better qualified or actually trying harder to get the job I'm sure you would be given more consideration than them.
I think nationals would do the work. But it's not just about willingness it's about the area you live in, the fact that those jobs tend to be seasonal and if you got kids etc etc. Many of the migrants are willing to leave their families for work.
Some unemployed would rather claim than do it. Perhaps because they are SURE something in their feild will turn up so they believe they can afford to wait.
The thing that I can't get my head round is do the employers ever think that in due time the migrants will learn that they can demand higher wages and get it? Or that they may leave for better paying jobs, some of which are qualified to do.
What then? Newer migrants from even further overseas? Lol what a nightmare that would be for the small-minded.
Both me and my husband work full time but it makes me really Angry when i see people on benefits scrounging money because they are to lazy to work.
They dont even have to get off there lazy backsides to sign on anymore because it goes into there bank accounts.
They pay no council tax and no tax full stop it all so wrong.

We can only afford to have 2 children So why can the benefit lot afford have 4 or 5 ??

This is a very good question. The media creates a frenzy over this whole issue and that is where most people get their opinions on this matter.
I'm lucky to be friends with many foreigners, mainly Czechs, and have much respect for them. Some of them are the hardest workers I have ever met, and really put the locals to shame.
They don't get the glamourous jobs - mainly the ones that natives turn their nose up at, believing the job to be beneath them. These guys all have degrees, yet find themselves doing jobs like potato picking, serving food, and dangerous jobs for a cheap buck.
Pride is what stops many natives doing the job, and maybe the thought of honest hardwork. Yet they don't mind claiming benefits when they are quite capable to do available jobs.
Maybe this is the effect of instant celebrity in society where people aspire to be something that is quite simply unrealistic. Or possibly we're just an elitist nation!
