Why do pro-illegals call us racists?...?

Here is a link that shows that it's the other way around...

Note: I am Black, but I am totally against illegal immigration... this is one of the reasons why...

Great link. I'm glad that you brought up your race by the way because so often I hear that it's only us racist whites that are against illegals. I guess they'll have to find a new arguement now!
because they are ignorant,troublemaking,hypocri... what really gets me is when they say we are immigrants too and should go back to europe.white people are from europe alright-and so are the hispanics(SPAIN). maybe they should go back with us!
its a proxy argument. I know alot of black people who are against illegals. its common knoledge that after Katrina hit N.O. that all the black people who had jobs doing emergency repairs were fired once the illegals showed up. racism is wrong no matter who is doing it to whom.

I'm back!!
Nice response. The fact is that while there have been short-term benefits to illegal immigration, the long term issues are numerous and potentially crippling for the US. Being the 3rd generation descendant of people who immigrated legally on both sides of my family, and having heard the stories of how they succeeded, I am generally unsympathetic to the pro-illegal lobby.

For most illegal immigrants, the factors that drive them are not specifically the benefits of living in the US or living the American Dream, but escaping things like communism, horrific living conditions, corruption, and poverty that exists in their own country. In the case of Mexican immigrants, it is the latter three issues that seem to be the prime motivators, and Mexicans are probably the most prevalent illegals simply due to Mexico being adjacent to the US.

Mexico has one of the most disproportionate distributions of wealth of any nation in the world. Corruption is pervasive and exists at every level of government. Lawlessness is a way of life. The cultural issues that result from these facts of Mexican life deeply affect life here in America. Plus, the single largest source of foreign capital into Mexico is from illegals who illegally send US dollars back to their families still in Mexico.

With these issues in mind, it floors me than anyone could be pro-illegal immigration, yet many, are in action, if not in word. They, and Mexicans especially it seems, want to turn this into a racial issue, but it is really an issue of lawfulness and protecting the American Dream as envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

And, for the record, I am one-half Mexican on one side and one-half Swiss and English on the other and my family has, for the most part, only been in the US for 2 generations before me.
It's the scorched earth way of debating. If you can't hold your own with the facts, divert attention by labeling your opponent with something derogatory. In this case, a racist.

In other debates you may be called liberal or a leftist, or right wing nut or a conservative talk radio listener that can't think for her or himself.

When watching a debate, look for the first person to try and label there opponent, they will be the first one to have run out of new ideas, true facts, and solutions to problems.
that's all they are doing, playing the race card. alipac sent me an email and said we need to start demanding our existing laws need to be enforced. we need to start demanding it. the 14th amendment does not apply to illegals. it was written for blacks. we Americans need to demand our laws be enforced where illegals are concerned.
Because a lot of the anti-immigration folks are racist.

I used to listen to a lot of talk radio, heck I used to be a Republican precint chair, so I've had a ringside seat to this Immigration fight, and many, many, many of the anti-immigration folks are just plain hate filled racists... no two ways about it.

I've heard talk radio HOSTS compare all Mexicans to "filthy rats", I've heard callers talk about the need to "preserve the white race", and I've heard people talking (not on the radio, in person) about the need to "get rid of all the sp*cs and wetb*cks".

So the word "racist" isn't being used to insult, it is being used to honestly describe.
I'm Asian/Pacific Islander, and I also am absolutely against illegal immigration. Even if its people of my own ethnicity coming through that southern border, the act is illegal, and is wrong on moral and societal grounds. Fact is, race is probably the most overused term in the entire immigration debate (even through I think you bring up a very relevant point and rebuttal against all that believe "gringos" are to blame here).

Sure there are racist elements to both sides of the debate, however, only one side has the territorial rights and internationally recognized borders of the United States in mind.

Racism on both sides notwithstanding, a country's territorial border, specifically one that is NOT in dispute with its neighbor (Mexico), is the issue here. Both sides can and probably will be as racist and emotional as they want on the debate, but the fact that the internationally recognized line in the sand has been violated is the only fact that counts.

To sum it up, race should absolutely be irrelevant to the issue. However, if pro-illegal factions wish to call me and even some of my Mexican-American, Black-American, Asian-American friends racist, so be it. It is a small price to pay.
easy to spell and say
Because on some level they obviously know they are wrong about this issue. Why else lie and distort regarding the issue?
They are trying to manipulate you into silence with the fear of social ostrasization.

Classic.
