Open borders would only be proposed by an illegal immigrant; in which case your opinion doesn't matter, or someone who is the clueless product of a broken public school system.
1. Enforce our current laws
2. Secure the border using modern technology and plain old barriers
3. heavily fine all of the employers using illegals.
4. Institute a fool proof national ID system
Secure borders, complete the fence, prosecute any employer caught hiring illegals. With no jobs, most unskilled would go home.
Fine the employers and let it be widely known that we are not the answer to their nations flawed programs nor to the VATICANS grip on refusing to let birth control be practiced in these countries.

When illegals are caught, since they don't have respect our laws, I believe we should really show them what illegal immigration really is and instead of releasing them back to Mexico, we should immigrate them to Iraq. Guarantied they will not try to sneak back into the country! This will have a more dramatic impact than fences, more border patrol agents, and expanded technology!

Simple, enforce the laws we already have and allow those who have been waiting for years for LEGAL immigration to get it.
I would put pressure on the foreign government to control their people.By force if needed.
Enforcement of current laws and denial of taxpayer-funded benefits.
New laws that provide for sending anyone to prison for five years on the first offense of hiring, enrolling in school, renting housing, or treating at a hospital or clinic. We would pay a reward for turning in the guilty. Everyone involved in the offense would go to prison including the CEO right down to the receptionist in the HR department. It would cause everyone to stop supporting illegal aliens in any way and it would only take a few arrests and prison sentences before everybody was in line. Further I think we should then set up a toll booth at the border and charge illegals $1000 each for the privilege of LEAVING the country.
If I had the choice of decision in England, I would definitely instigate mass expulsion of anyone even remotely involved with terrorists - families - the lot!! The rest would be most welcome to stay, it is as simple as that but do not expect me to have kind words for trouble makers because, in truth, they are nothing but Islamic murdering scum.
I will denounce these evil doers with all my might and resolve because, at the end of the day, we welcomed them into England and they enjoyed all the goodies and benefits we have to offer. They repay us with treachery and explosives!! America, is a wonderful nation which has a mostly wonderful people but even that is being stolen from its indiginous population and, pretty soon, if you do not do something about it, you will be over run with Asians and Hispanics who, quite simply, do not care about you and your loved ones and will face guns, bombs and killings on a scale which we in England can hardly believe. Iraqis stabbing each other in the streets. Eastern europeans peddling drugs, prostitution and flogging fake gold, effing and blinding in front of your kids, taking residence in housing estates when our own folk are going begging just to be treated in the same manner in the hope of finding a permenant home!
Slyly having relations with English women who they impregnate, marry them, file for divorce, then legally disappear into the sytem. They work for lower wages so that bad employers have a constant supply of cheap labour. English people go without work at all and I really tell you with my hand on my heart that I have seen with my own eyes, mothers crying on what they should do to get a little bit of something for their kids for Christmas.
Do not, for one moment, believe that these people are not having a go already because, although you get the suicide bobmber scum, you have those who are good at manipulating financial institutions and they will damage you through trade and commerce and, let's face up to facts, the persons who hold the purse strings to any nation, have, in effect, taken up ownership and then the religious shite will start all over again and you know darned well what these people are capable of getting up to.

Send the all back home. I don't care where they are from. They got here somehow and they paid to get here, they can and should have to pay to get home!
The reality of the situation is...THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THE AUTHORITY and they never will because the majority of "Americans" are idiots who wouldn't know how to begin to handle the situation...so keep on dreaming!
I would work with Mexico to come up with a better border solution. I would also use our National Guard troops to guard the border instead of sending them to Iraq to die for nothing...that's just in my first day on the job.
We need people to volunteer to help guard the border. We need to report any illegal activity such as employers hiring illegals, etc. Send anyone home who is found to be here without authorization.
We need a database for our law enforcement community. When someone is arrested and their name comes up as illegal, they should be immediately put in process for deportation. There are some people who are arrested 5, 10, 20 times and are known illegals. They are let out and disappear until their next arrest. Does this seem normal? NO. Send them home.
