Does anyone know what type of Visa I need to live in UK?

My boyfriend from the US has lived and worked in the UK for over 5 years. I am also a US Citizen and I have come frequently to visit him, and now we would like to live together in the UK. I am not sure what type of VISA I would be eligible for. The unmarried partner Visa requires that you live together for 2 years. I have known this man for over 40 years, dated and visited him in UK for the 5 years he has been there, but I have never lived with him. I am quite confused.

Answer:
The experts on this situation is Immigration, you need to call them, go to their office and they will guide you through the process of doing exactly what you want to do.
Write to the Home Office, and to the Immigration Department in London. They should also have a website too.
you would probably need to get a job so that you can get some type of working VISA, or get accepted to a school there... but you can always get a travel VISA
What immigration status does your boyfriend have? Also, if you're not planning on marrying him the answer is no - you can't just come and live with him in the UK.

If he's got 'Permanent Leave to Remain' then you can contact the Home Office and move in but you won't be able to work and you most likely won't be to receive any assistance. And you'll need at least a 'Fiance VISA' to settle.

If he's got a lower VISA status or if his VISA is managed through his work you'll need to go through them to start the process.
