Fences don't work?!?
The San Diego border fence works, we are building one in Iraq, they work in my backyard (coupled with my dog/shotgun), the one in Israel has cut attacks by 90%. A good, COMPLETE double or triple fence is relatively cheap to build and keep up, and doesn't require retirement benefits.
The fact is that under our law, America is indeed closed — to all but those who, after elaborate procedures, are deemed worthy of joining the American family. Those objecting to the fence should be objecting to the law that closes America off, not to the means for effectively carrying out that law

Mexico is the new slave labor market pool. Don't expect any fences to be put up in a hurry.especially as long as you have an oil can in the White House.
A fence is not a bad idea...an electrical fence with enough charge to kill anyone who touches it as some people talk about IS a bad idea. I think there should be a fence on our northern border also. Have you seen the shows about how much drug activity comes through our Canadian border because it is less guarded?

First thing i am convinced that regulating the flow of immigrants is necessary.
The problem here is not the fence in itself but the constant need for low level workers.
Economic growth is the greatest factor of attraction here.
Even if this fence reaches the skies, the need will not disappear. And US businesses will always hire poor people willing to improve their lives.
The real question is this one: Are American citizen ready to work for the same pay other workers are eager to accept?
If the answer is yes then this fence is the solution. If not ...

Hadrians wall was, in the end, a monumental waste of resources. So was the great wall of China. So is Israel's wall, attacks there haven't gone down because of the wall, they've gone down due to Palestinian infighting.
Honestly, in the end, nothing that any nation has ever done to prevent a mass migration has worked. People need to come to terms with the fact that America won't be able to do it either. On a power parity scale, the Romans and Ming Dynasty both kick the crap out of us, and if they couldn't stop it with the best tech of their day, and many times the personell that we have, we'll be hard pressed to do it.
I don't really see the problem with immigration anyway. It creates a larger internal market which strengthens the economy and brings more jobs. What more could we want?
