What will happen to our Mexican's family?

This guy showed up at our door years ago and we had him do some gardening. I have never seen a harder worker or better gardener -- unfortunately has not learned any English. One might think it is because he is unwilling or unable but actually he has no time or energy. A visiting Spanish speaker questioned him and I know now that he has six children and wife in Mexico and he also supports his aging parents and a retarded adult sister. We wouldn't be able to stay in our house with big garden without Armando, whom we pay $12 per hour. He goes back to Mexico every year in the winter. I am starting to worry about what will happen to all those people in Mexico he supports if he can't cross the border. We will have to move to a condo. This guy never does anything bad. He works so hard and gives up so much to take care of his family but the mood of politics in this country is making him into a criminal. And me too. I wonder why this is happening...

Answer:
While you have genuine feelings for this person who is here illegally you may also want to consider other families and US citizens who pay out millions and millions of dollars a year for social programs and education to people in the USA that don't speak English. Not counting the literature that is published in Spanish, not counting the millions and millions of dollars that goes to illegals with anchor babies (babies born in the USA), not counting the millions and millions of dollars spend on education and English Second Language (ESL) teachers who teach children who don't speak English, many American families are paying higher taxes to support these programs.

At the same time, many illegals drive down local wages for American workers because illegals will accept less, thus leaving many citizens of the US out of jobs.

I think its great and noble that you have feelings for this family you tell us about. I think if you personally want to help them, that's great, but what I don't feel that you and people like you have the right to do is because of your good wishes, you obligate millions of dollars of my tax funds. Encouraging illegals robs your children and mine from financial prosperity in the future. Your kind feelings don't give you the right to take away monies from our children.

In closing, let me say that I am Mexican-American and I don't hate illegals. I feel sorry for them. All of us who are against illegals have reasons that deal with the law or wages or financial support of illegals with US tax dollars. Those who say that we hate illegals fail to see our legitimate concern here and attempt to discount our opionion by classifying it as racist. They are so wrong.
Sounds like a great guy to me. I don't know how all the people on this site hate all illegal Mexicans and stereotype them in obscene ways. Your gardener sounds like the type of Mexicans that I know and see all around me. I only wish the best for him.
Were you paying him $12/hr b/c you're a generous person, or b/c that was CHEAPER than hiring a citizen or a resident alien?

If it was CHEAPER - then YOU caused the problem, and don't cry your crocodile tears around me.

If it's b/c you were generous - WHY didn't you just GIVE him the money to get legally in this country, and then hire him when YOU and HE complied with the law?
Murphy,
Why did you not help this man become legal by sponsoring him and his family long ago?
It seems your concern can't go too deeply since you let him break the law all these years.
These are the people whom I feel badly for. They are just pawns in this system. They just want to be able to support their families back home...But these people are very industrious and they will always find a way, necessity is the mother of invention...
Because you are breaking the law and so is Armando. Why can't you see this? Is he the only gardener in your zip code? Move to a condo if you need to and send Armando letters to check on him but don't hire him again because his problems will be your problems and a higher fee than $12.OO an hour will be at your doorstep. Get with America!
Yeah.

I think the reason this is happening is because over 12 million people have deliberately broken the law to sneak into our country. Good people sometimes do bad things; that doesn't mean that others should bear the responsibility for their bad decisions.
Breaking the law, is breaking the law...my wife is Colombian, and she came here legally...so it can be done...I know Americans who try to take care of their families on $12 an hour or less...many would be happy to get $12 an hour...Mexico's problems are Mexico's problems...your gardener and you chose to break the law and you should be punished...I know bring several 100 Kilos of Cocaine into the US would make my families lives a lot better, but it is illegal, right? We can not choose which laws we follow, just because we don't agree with them...you should be ashamed of yourself...go find an American to cut your grass...
I agree with Razor Jim. Why not sponsor him to come to the country legally if you are so concerned? If he takes the right routes then his family would eventually be able to come legally also. $12 an hour is a decent pay for landscaping, at least here in the northeast, I'm not sure what is the going rate where you are. He should not have entered the country illegally, but if we support the new immigration bill and you vouch for him having worked for you, and you and he pay the back-taxes owed to the government for employing someone and being employed then he probably will be legal eventually.
They have it very hard in mexico. A high school kid would not nearly be as reliable, since parents would guide them away from being subservient.
You could offer him a job, so he gets past the border. You would have to issue a 1099 irs form.

Why don't you help him get a green card?
Im confused, you cant stay in your big house if your gardener isnt there? haha stfu Get your lazy butt out the house and tend to your garden yourself!
mexicans who breed like rabbits are not Americas responsibility!
Why does everyone seem to think the subject is an illegal. If he goes home every winter, and returns every spring he probably has work papers.. I know several individuals who work for a local landscaping service. Everybody thinks they are illegal. They kept getting reported (probably by a competitor). Immigration conducted a raid. Of some 20 employees, the three owners were born in USA, 3-4 more were permanent residents, and of the rest, only one was found to have phony papers. That person was deported. The rest were all legal, and had come through proper channels. Do not get me wrong, the illegals should be sent home, but just because somebody looks like a Mexican and speaks Spanish does not mean they are an illegal alien. You want to find a bunch of them who are probably richer than most of the people on this site, look at areas around Houston, Texas where citizens of Monterrey and Mexico city are buying summer homes. They are really just "tourists" and only stay for a few months at a time, do not work or use social services, and hire Americans to do the yard work, plumbing, etc.
If he is in on a worker's visa there shouldn't be any problems. If he is in the country illegally then I don't care about his problems and I am surprised that you are trying a pitiful attempt to make me feel bad for someone who snuck into our country and stole work from someone else. I know several people who would gladly come and take care of your yard for 12.00 per hour. If you continue to have him work for you, you are harboring a fugitive and are a criminal. What do you want me to do, give you a reward? GIVE ME A BREAK!
I don't suppose you even noticed that you are claiming ownership of Armando when you refer to him as "our Mexican". You self serving poor pitiful selfish hypocrite. "We will have to move into a condo" If that isn't the biggest sack of self pity I've heard of.
I hate that is happening to him.
America is full of haters!
YOU should be in prison. General population for five years with no chance for parole or early release. YOU are the criminal who lures them here.
OUR MEXICAN? It sounds to me like he is more of a slave to you than anything. You are a piece of work buddy. I am sure the slave masters of years ago would love your attitude. The only difference between yourself and them is you are paying him a crappy wage. But I guess the old masters sheltered and fed their slaves. Why don't you have one of your useless children do something around the house instead of playing video games, and getting fat all day long. I hope you have to move to a low income condo, you Creep.
I think you should help him get legal! i mean the world is cruel and im sure hes a good guy but everyone dosent see him like you do. If mexico had a better economy, goverment maybe mexicans wouldnt migrate so much. but what can we do? I think your awsome for helping this guy im sure hes family in mexico are greatful. Your helping put food on their table. :)
