My father was british subjected, why not iam british subjected?
Answer:
You failed the language test.
probably because you were born before your father became a british subject - if you really wanna know you could just check with the british government
You have not given much detail but British subjects automatically lose their British subject status on acquiring any other nationality
Being a British subject and being a British citizen are two different things, this link will explain it.
I AM A DUAL CITIZEN = BRITISH / AUSTRALIAN.
To be a British subject, you usually have to be born in a commonwealth country. To have a parent that was a british subject does not entitle you to the same honour.
Mannliz is a British/Australian citizen (*grins* she's my citizenship sister). Not a British subject/Australian citizen. There is a big difference. We will enjoy rights and priveledges as a full on Brit if we chooses to go there (as well as residency, work, welfare etc). British subjects.. rules are a little fuzzy for those. British subjects can apply for full citizenship if they met the requirements (which are similar to that of naturalization). I know British subjects can get a British passport but the right to live in Britian varies for some of them.
---Loss of British subject status
British subjects, other than by those who obtained their status by virtue of a connection to the Republic of Ireland prior to 1949, automatically lose their British subject status on acquiring any other nationality, including British citizenship, under section 35 of the British Nationality Act 1981.--- Wikipedia
I think that because your father was not a British subject when you were born, but the registered you you became a British subject. Then you gained another citizenship and lost it under the 1981 act. Either that or you never actually gained British subject status (are you born in a Commonwealth country).
I have to agree with Watercolour iris on this. If you really want to know call the embassy and ask (if you're in Australia you may have a hard time getting an answer.. I called them up the other week and had hell trying to get a straight answer out of them).
now say after me...
I am not British because I cannot speak English
I'd be happy for you to be a British citizen, but it would be nice if you learned the language to a better standard first.
If you want to live here, you have to abide by our laws and customs, I'm not saying you should cut yourself off from your cultural heritage, but you can't be forcing it on us. Learn to live in your chosen place, organically.
The citizens of your father's country wanted Independence from Britain which was granted. Independence means you go it alone.
