Im currently a U.S. Resident. How do I become a Citizen How much does it cost?

I have been a resident since 2000 but I was raised here in California and im 23 yrs. old. My mother became a U.S. Citizen before I turned 18 yrs old, and she got me my residence here. I heard she can she apply for my citizenship and that it's cheaper? Is that true? or do I have to do that myself? If I have to. what do I need to do? Where do I go? How much does it cost?

Answer:
From the facts you provide, you may be a citizen already pursuant to the Child Citizenship Act (CCA). It requires that prior to turning 18 years:
1) you were admitted to permanent residency;
2) a parent naturalized;
3) that you were in the legal and physical custody of the us citizen parent

The passport application actually doesn't ask for custody info--only your parent's natuaraliztion certificate, a copy of your permanent residency card and a birth certificate.

Apply for a passport on form DS-11

EDIT for clarificaiton: This law causes you to become a citizen AUTOMATICALLY. You don't have to apply for anything. I am suggesting you apply for a passport to evidence your citizenship.
Go to immigration and get the paperwork, you fill it out yourself, you will be called to take an oral test about the US government and history, and if you pass everything you will be sworn in as a citizen.
Here is a link to a very informativesection on becoming a U.S Citizen. I became a citizen after the minimum residence of seven years.
I believed that your mom can fill up the forms, or she can apply for you. BUt I would say that your old enough to apply for citizenship, so go ahead and fill up the citizenship form then send it, link below where u can find the forms

www.uscis.gov
download the N-400 forms for naturalization. Pay the fees for $675
or check this URl link below for updated fees

hope this helps.good luck
I think your Mother can only apply for you up until the age of 23yrs. Go www.uscis.gov you do not want to be misinformed on this. However, if you do plan to apply try to do so before the end of July '07 as fees will drastically increase after this time, although the website will not tell you this. Good luck.
