How should we deal with illegal immigrants?

I'm my humble opinion we should have a zero tolerance policy against those who break our laws and and take advantage of our liberal policies. I live on the border and know first hand how illegal immigration affects our country. Let me give specific examples: 1. My public schools are overwelmed, my property taxes have increased to build new schools, expand english as a second language, and my children denied a place in their neighborhood school due to illegal immigrant children. 2. The county hospital has become an immigrant clinic, due to no questions asked policy, and a puppy mill (since anyone born here is U.S. citizen) 3. My insurance rates are the highest in the country, since I am required to have drivers license, registration and insurance (including uninsured motorist), and there are no consequences (since we are a santuary city) for breaking the law (except a ticket, that never gets paid). Maybe I'm cynical buy I believe that I'm being screwed for obeying the laws of the US.

Answer:
Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
Oh you are. run for Office, I'll vote for you!
If your a sanctuary city I would organize some kind of public organization demanding that the city stop being a haven for illegals, (hence the no questions asked policy) I would also just report the illegals to INS or ICE.
How about bar codes on their foreheads?
It's a hard subject. On one hand I would like to toughen up on it, but on the other hand, if we kicked them all out our economy would collapse.
Deal with them the same way as cubans if they make it here give them leagalization
You are not the only one paying a lot of money for insurance, etc.
I send my son to a private school because the public ones are not good.
I do not live in a border city.
I pay for private insurance and get decent service.

Maybe we are all being screwed because our government does not invest enough money into our schools? I mean they always seem to find the billions needed for killing people in wars! How hard can it be to give our schools a bit more money?
illegal immigrants need to be identified. once they are identified, they are given the option to apply for legal citizenship. If they do not apply after a certain deadline then they should be deported. They had the chance and they didn't take it. The borders should be more secure, a concrete wall, not a flimsy chain link fence. If you live in this country you need to pay taxes just like the rest of us. Imagine if the millions of illegals payed taxes, how much more money would come in? Anyone that is of an illegal status, and is identified after commiting a crime, should be deported. We dont need more criminals, we have plenty without taking some from other countries. When I say illegal immigrants, I don't just mean mexican immigrants, I mean every illegal immigrant. They all put a strain on our economy.
I think you should not do anything about them. they didn't do anything to you leave them alone
Help their home country become more prosperous so that they don't feel such a strong need to come to the U.S. to earn enough money to eat. This is the only long term solution to the immigration problem.

Regarding Mexico, I would suggest tax credits to U.S. corporations that out source work to Mexico rather than China.

And otherwise encouraging U.S. corporations to build factories in Mexico.

Unfortunately, some Americans would prefer to keep Mexico dirt poor and build fences.

We don't have an immigration problem with Canada and there is no reason that we must have one with Mexico. - The only problem is that once Mexico becomes prosperous, the Mexicans will start to have an immigration problem from poorer countries in South America.

For a shorter term solution to the problem, I think congress would be wise to allow different states to handle the problem differently. In Northern California where I live, almost nobody thinks illegal aliens are a problem - They contribute greatly to the economy here by working in service jobs and agriculture. - Because of the crack down at the border, farmers have been complaining about the difficulty getting people to pick the crops. - In states where the majority of people hate illegal aliens, maybe the government could allow those states to keep the current system of random roundups and deportations in effect.
In Los Angeles 95% of homocide warrants are for illegal aliens. 50% of all gang members are illegal aliens. I could go on and on. Bottom line, NO AMNESTY, ZERO TOLERANCE! I was robbed by an illegal alien at gunpoint! I say we deport all we find.
I feel for you dealing with modern day reality.

However the historical fact of the matter is that you are living in land that was stolen by invasion of a weak neighbouring country by aggressive land hungry thieves.

Pls read history not propaganda.

I'm a Scot living in Canada.
You are right, why is this being allowed to happen, and when is the government going to put a stop to this insane situation, zero tolerance is the answer start rounding them up and shipping them out.
Many hospitals went bankrupt in California because of illegal aliens. Some of those hospitals were the type needed for disasters. They were special hospitals that were purposefully designed to handle disasters ( terrorist attacks, earthquakes, etc).
In my opinion, immigration issues have become a catch 22 situation. While I agree with you and many others that we should have a zero tolerance on illegal immigration, I tend to disagree in as far as the economic issues come into spotlight. Take for instance jobs: these people come to do jobs that are essential to our economy and that no American is ready to do. They come in because there are job for them. If there were no jobs, they would not pay thousands of dollars to be smuggled in. Having said that we should have a system to stem the inflow. I think the wall is a good idea. The other method is to make sure all illegal aliens are registered then introduce an aliens' tax, say each illegal Alien pays $10k per year and $3k for each member of his his family. This would make it useless for them to come and seek our lowly paying jobs. But then, who would pick the oranges and other fruits. I am worried corporates like Del Monte would move their plantations to Mexico and Latin America in search of cheap labor.
I totally agree. The public school system is flooded with them! I go to my children's school and a little under half don't even know English. The ESL program is flooded. Oh wait, we pay for that with our tax dollars. And we are paying for illegals to flood our schools and its coming out of OUR pocket!!
I agree! (Star coming at ya.)

Zero tolerance. No amnesty. ENFORCE THE CURRENT LAWS. Jail the employers who hire illegals. Deport and/or jail illegals. BUILD THE WALL! Pardon Ramos & Compeon!!

Our country is being destroyed by the illegal aliens, where ever they come from. The morons in Washington don't care. The idiot in the White House is totally wrong on this issue.
