And California's senior senator said she may join the House Republicans who have authored a bill to grant a congressional pardon to the two men. She will also review the law under which they were charged to see if changes should be made.
She spoke after a hearing Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee –the first congressional inquiry into the case of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, two former agents convicted of shooting Osvaldo Aldrete Davila as he was trying to get away from them at the Texas-Mexico border.
"I think it's prosecutorial overreaction," Feinstein said. "They threw the book at these officers. Everything they could possibly think of they charged."
Ramos and Compean were convicted last year and began serving their sentences in January. They were found guilty of not only improperly using their firearms, but also of covering up the incident.
Some lawmakers, including Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Huntington Beach, who testified Tuesday morning, have called on President Bush to pardon the two, saying they were just doing their jobs and should be hailed as heroes for trying to stop a drug offense.

I'd like to ask the pro amnesty ,why didn’t this weasel have to testify under oath? Everyone in the Justice Dept. has had to traipse before the committees investigating the firing of the 8 US attornies and testify under oath. I guess that’s just for “the little people” who aren’t above the law as many of our prosecutors seem to be these days.
They should be freed now.
I’m sick of hearing our politicians make hay over the drug war and immigration problems and then abandon the guys who are “taking care of business” on the front lines. At an absolute minimum these guys deserve the benefit of the doubt., how about you?

I'm thankful that Sen. Dianne Feinstein is taking action, but she is my Senator and I'm wondering what her motive is. This woman doesn't just do something like this out of the goodness of her cold little heart.
Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean need to be freed NOW. Johnny Sutton should be in jail not them.
It's nice that she finally came around but she is late to the party, is this her kiss up for her vote for amnesty

These good men have been political prisoners of our government for 181 days! Jorge Bush pardons his good buddy and lets these heroes get beat up and almost killed (Ramos).

I have wondered what her motive is. She sure made a mess of things with the amnesty crap. She got over 200,000 calls about the bill. While her office CLAIMS that only 55% were against the bill, she still voted against what we wanted.
I'm glad she did this but I will not vote for "Feinswine" when she comes up for re-election. She has already done too much damage and NOTHING can redeam her.
yes I do hope they pardon these men for shooting the drug dealer, when he tried to cross the border with drugs he should have known the consequences, if not he and others do now, a small price to pay to get the word out that the U,S, is tired of playing soft ball, I also think the service men who went to prison for killing a man in Iraq should be pardoned along with all of the others, if you have ever been in combat as these guys have you will certainly agree,

My opinion of Senator Feinstein kind of went haywire after hearing her comments after 9/11. She sure sounded like an American that day. This is further confirming my suspicions that she is turning into a moderate.She has the clout and the cojones to make things happen.Imagining us writing to Senator Feinstein and thanking her! Like I said, I’m keeping an eye on her. I wouldn’t want or expect her to switch parties, but she has supported America and our troops to a greater extent than some of her fellow Dems.
No. They improperly used their firearms and they covered up the incident. They didn't report what they did. I'm also a Democrat, but I'm a little suspicious as to WHY she's doing this.
I am not going to thank Feinstien as she voted for the awful senate shamnesty bill. These guys were investigated by the Border Patrol and no action was taken against them. They should never have been taken to trial. They violated procedure, so they should have been suspended and fined. Their sentence was way too long. The idiot Bush should commute their sentences. I doubt his masters in Mexico would be upset with that.
