Immigration bill is dead until after the 2008 election, did this bill serve to bring Republican and Democratic

voters together? I think it did. The phone banks had to be shut down today for a period of time.

Answer:
I think it did to a degree. Althought I think mostly what you will find is that politicians you are going to be up for reelection next year voted no.

People need to make sure their politicians are representing them. I bet more letters to Senators were written in the last month or so than the entire previous year. Politicians need to know that if they dont represent their people then they need to look for a new job.
It was a non partisan issue. This issue crossed all party lines.
I don't know about that, but it showed that the American people do not want to grant amnesty to lawbreakers.
Bring us all together for what? To fight?

Ted Kennedy is a putz and this is by far the WORST thing Bush has ever done.
Yes but the fight is not over. I warned my congresswoman 2 years ago that this was going to get ugly. She believed me. My senators didn't. Now we need to see the laws enforced in earnest. We have sadly learned that we can not take our attention off those fools in congress for one moment. They need to be lead children and understand just who the hell they do work for.
Mm am. The immigration bill is dead today. I have phoned my senator and my congressmen. Today, I am an American, not a republican or a democrat, but today I am a Patriot. Today I am Happy that my Senators have listened to me for once! When will we all stand together?
nobody expected it to pass except for bush who was hoping for something to go his way.

everyone will be at each others throats again tomorrow -- the supreme court is making sure of that.
I heard an interesting comment on the news today from an independent analyst who stated that the immigration issue is very important to the Western and border states, but the Midwest and Eastern states aren't very interested as long as they still get their produce on schedule. This wasn't said as a political slam, just a logical conclusion upon looking at the facts.
Hence, the bill was defeated instead of being debated and a satisfactory resolution formed.
Doubt it
No, since most of the yes votes came from Democrats & the no votes from Republicans & new Democrats who campaigned on being against an amensty law. I think it freed Republicans from feeling guilt about not standing by the President. I have stood strong with President Bush until this bill, so now I can move on to supporting moderate conservative canidates.
President Bush & Senator Kennedy are wrong to decide we can not enforce our laws. Will they tell the drug dealers that next? Too many so we will set you up in business.
There are lots of ways to enforce our immigration laws if every liberal bleeding heart or ruthless business owner will stop protecting them.
Honestly, I think they're a little scared. The step they took today was HUUUUUUUUGE! I hope they realize that. How about getting our country back now boys and girls?
The defeat of this bill by the Republicans means that immigration reform is dead in the water.

It means that the 12 million or so illegal immigrants out there can relax and go on with their lives.

It means that the politicians can finally stop hyping that never-gonna-happen border fence to the dupes that actually believe it can be done.

It means that our borders are now wide open and more will come in.

Sometimes you get what you deserve.
Yes.. I believe it did.

It showed that a Majority of Americans are disgusted with both Democrat and Republican Politicians and that if they don't stop trying to screw their constituents..The change we saw in the last election will be even bigger in the next election.

I believe politicians finally know that "we the people" will hold them accountable for their actions..
For a while, but then we would split apart again.
I haven't seen you for a while/
