Has anyone actually been affected personally by immigration?

A lot of people concerned about illegal immigration are concerned with over-crowding of hospitals, etc... Has anyone really had an experience like a broken leg or something that you had to wait hours in the emergency room because of some immigrant with "9 kids."

I suspect that kind of talk is just stereotyping. My home near the border has one of the highest levels of immigrants (many illegal). As a white guy with a little money, I ALWAYS got better services, it was the illegals who couldn't see a doctor at the ER. There were free clinics that they could use, which I could also go to if I wanted to wait in line. I had insurance, so I'd pay the co-pay to go somewhere else.

Perhaps I don't have a high enough personal income right now to feel the tax burden, but somehow it seems to me that it's not a big a deal as everyone says.

Answer:
I live in the San Fernando Valley, Ca and I am affected every day...
I am a single mom and I have to pay for my son to go to a private school because the schools in my area are basically geared toward Spanish speakers and is over crowded and behind in learning..
My rent for a small 2 bedroom in an area where I can't even read the billboards because they are not in English is $1,150 a month.
I get criticized for not accommodating to illegals because I speak my countries language and also get told how much better they are than I am because I'm white.
I cannot get any government assistance with anything regarding medical for myself or my child because even though I'm not middle class...the illegals are dirt poor and get the majority of govt assistance here.
I have had to wait for hours in the emergency room..even though I have insurance and pay my taxes.
YES! i live in southern California.

We are effected EVERY SINGLE DAY!
Yeah, I have been effected. My house gets cleaned for a lot cheaper than Merry Maids.
OHG dude, wake up. The increase in gang violence alone from mexicans affects our town everyday.
Illegal immigration has not hurt me one bit and I live in Central California where a large population of these people live and work.
If the numbers are true and it is costing every US citizen about $20,000.00 each to support illegals then I guess it is more than stereotyping. Wages being driven down effects all of us. You , I and everyone pays for that medical coverage. The free clinic costs someone something, it ain't free to who pays the bills.
No I have not, good question.
No, I can't say it has..I am sure it has benefited me.I know we pay A LOT less for goods and services in this country.Have you ever been to Europe? The cost of living is so much higher, for the average citizen, than it is here.
YOU have been affected personally. It takes approximately $9000 per child per year for a public education. How many of the 12+ million illegal immigrants are children and in a public school using taxpayers money and for how many years? That does not even include the price of ESL and other special needs prgrams.

That is but one instance of how YOU are personally affected (assuming you pay taxes of course).

By the way free clinics are funded by taxpayer money so count that as number two in a long line of other ways.
I think the main concern from the middle and lower economic strata of America's citizenry, is the FACT that doubling the commodity (labor) halves the demand for that commodity (wages). People, for some odd reason, like to make more money, not less.

Crazy, aren't they?

Let's kill all of 'em. Those crazy, money-hungry corporat-- uh, I mean laborers. I meant laborers. Let's kill those money-hungry laborers. [NOT the profit averse corporations.]

I'm only kidding. We don't need to kill anyone.
in my childs 1 grade class she was the only white child out of 27 children very few of the children spoke any English at all.My daughters teachers had to put my daughter second to teach the other children first. That also was the case for my sons 4th grade class and my other daughters 7th grade class.
It affects everyone, but it doesn't affect everyone directly. In the hospitals I work for it's a non issue, but most of the hospital I work for only see Vets and the other one is in a rich neighborhood.
THe only time I seem to have problem is when I took My father to Hollywood Pres. THe hospital was losing a lot of money, and the lab was also about to lose their acreditation. We waited in a long line, and there was a shooting infront of us. I heard murmers it was gang related. I can't say if any of them are illegal immigrants though.

There are a lot of Hospital out here thats going under. Look at Martin Luther king-Drew hospital. I can't say illegal immigrants are completely responsible, but If the hospital is in trouble, illegal immigration can't help.
I was hit by an illegal immigrant who did not have insurance, and was coincidently also taken to jail when I got out and started to beat the crap out of the bastard. Lucky for me, illegals can't step forward to press the assault charge, so I was free, but still had to pay for the damages to my car.

If he had not been in America, he would not have hit me, so yes, illegal immigration does affect me.
I work in education. Everyday we give free lunches and breakfasts to hundreds of kids. We have to have bilingual aids in the classrooms, we have to have extra English as a Second Language classes, we have to bus them 45 min to school, 15 children of illegals at our school are pregnant right now and 6 others already had their babies this year. Who do you think is paying for all of this?

My car was also hit by an illegal with no license and NO INSURANCE. The police said there was nothing they could do. My insurance picked up the bill and my rates were raised.

.
To me it's a big deal because I end up owing taxes at the end of the year. I am not married yet, don't have any children and not quite ready to own a home because I am continuing my education. Even with the tax breaks of being a student and filing for exemptions properly, no matter what, I always end up owing at least $200 by the end of the fiscal year. I put in overtime and get almost half my paycheck taken by taxes. It's ridiculous. I think it's the tax issue that's killing me more than anything. I actually considered living in another country for about five to ten years, becoming a citizen there and attending school in the U.S. on an international student visa so I wouldn't have to pay for school.. a little far fetched but it could work :D. That's a real tax break.

Also, what people forget, everyone is making the false statement they are taking the jobs Americans don't want. Not true. The higher ups know they don't have to pay day laborers or illegals the higher wages to produce the same amount of work.

Let's all be reminded what happened when the South decided to use a cheap source of labor...
I am affected by it everyday. My little boy and I deal with racist mexicans and it's not just us, i've had white friends tell me the same. We have been called names and been physically attacked for no reason other than the fact we're not mexican.
I am right now taking time off my job to look for another because I was basically told if I wouldn't learn spanish, I might not have a job.
I have also dealt with the hours long wait to be seen at a hospital due to a bunch of illegals. Their children had colds and since they had no regular insurance or family doctor, they used the hospital.
I had just had my son about a week before and I was bleeding heavily(later confirmed I was hemmoraging) yet they took the mexicans first. Since many of the workers here are hispanic, they get better treated and top priority.
These are only a few of the bad experiences i've had. There are many more.
We live in a border state and it affects us in so many ways. A lot of people who live in non border states don't yet understand but they soon will.
I'm affected everyday. I live in a historical district in my city. the homes are large and beautiful. the surrounding area if full of apartments and smaller houses, most are rentals. My son can not go to the public school in our neighborhood because it is FULL of English learners. I did go and observe the kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms before we made the choice to send him to a private school. The teachers I observed spoke Spanish more than they spoke English. the little blue eyed blonde haired boys who live next door went there for 2 years and were teased and beaten up. This was an elementary school!!!

So yes I am affected everyday. My tax dollars for to pay for their schooling then I pay more to send my child to a private school where they teach in English and he is actually learning something.
