Answer:
Increase border patrol.
Build the fence humanely, but leaving little room for violating it.
A triple fence would work...dense outer fences surrounding an inner electric fence...post signs on the outer fences every 50 feet. Use solar-powered lighting to keep it bright at night.
This measure would keep animals from being harmed and deter people from attempting to cross it.
Solar-powered motion sensors would also help.
Establish armed, manned monitoring posts every 100 miles capable of a rapid response to attempted incursions.

Build the fence, let the people guarding it do their job, enforce the immigration laws we have, close down the companies that hire them, and No AMNESTY. The illegals would leave!
True,red,white and blue, can say that Americans learned a lesson from history. When most of our southwest was a part of Mexico. Mexico welcomed immigrants with open arms, all they had to do was to be law abiding and ended up losing half of its land.Now the shoe is on the other foot. Build a wall with manned (or womanned) towers every 2-3 miles, occupied by trained sharp shooters with excellent range.
Start picking off border crashers and see if the number of those coming in doesn't drop.

Well I'm sure the #1 answer is going to be "Build a wall!" and I guess that's a good idea but I don't have a lot of faith in walls historically. But if it makes everyone happy then go ahead. But simply building a wall doesn't address the root of the problem since when they have built sections of the wall previously, illegal immigration has just shifted to section of un-walled borders. Truthfully if they can get that whole unmanned airplane thingy up and running so that we don't have to waste man hours patrolling miles of open desert that'd be spiffy.
Oh, and I agree with the guy who said streamline the legal immigration process so we dont have as many line-cutters. That sounds good to me also.
we need to enforce the laws we have now. even if it means getting tougher with American citizens. this way they can't jump up and yell racism.
