Do Americans require a passport when visiting Puerto Rico and vice versa?

Also, who issues Puerto Rican passports, and what nationality is listed?

Answer:
No everybody born in Puerto Rico is automatically an American Citizen, because they are a territory of the US.. so no they do not need passports to visit a country they are a citizen of- nor do Americans born in the states require a passport to visit there
US citizens do NOT need a passport to visit Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands.
Puerto Rica is part of the US.
No, Americans do not need a passport to visit Puerto Rico because it is a U.S. Terrotory. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens and would apply for U.S. passports.
Sorry, you are all wrong. As of yesterday you do need a passport.
Check here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16768915/... The laws changed, you now need a passport for Mexico, Canada, all sorts of places, citizen or not.
Because Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth, U.S. citizens coming from mainland destinations do not need any documents to enter Puerto Rico. It is the same as crossing from Georgia into Florida. They do not need to carry proof of citizenship or to produce documents. To my understanding, there are no Puerto Rican passports since they are considered american citizens. Therefore, they have american passports. Please read the references below for more information.
Puerto Rico is a United States Commonwealth. Therefore, no passports are needed by US citizens to go there, any more than a US citizen needs a passport to go from Illinois to Virginia.

No sir. At leaset now it's billed as not required. I think Canada,Mexico require passports for entry to and from.
They are US citizens. They just can't vote. They can come under their passport. Whether we can go there, I'm not so sure. I would think so, though.
get a passport! you will need it to leave the country!
No, just a physcolgical evaluation for wanting to go to another 3rd world crime infested dump !!!
you do now, new law. americans don't get a puerto rican passport, they only get a US passport. You may need a puerto rican VISA, this is obtained from the puerto rican embassy. The puerto rican embassy should also issue passports to puerto ricans in thier own country or help them prove thier identity should you be in a foriegn place with no papers.

i don't think you need a visa
Puerto Ricans are US Citizens and the island is a US Commonwealth so I do not believe that they need passports to travel to or from the mainland.
