Can someone with an SSA system id/password input SSNO and receive info?
If the SSA does not have this capability, could the reason be political? Especially since the SSA is one of the most efficient agencies anywhere. Since illegal immigrants cost the US taxpayer $35 billion per year more than business saves, it seems this search capability would pay for itself in 3 months or less.
IMO, there is no IT reason why an SSNO can't be checked to see if the resulting data matches the person who is using it. Even if the database is a few gb. The cost/benefit ratio has to be .001 or less.
If such a capability exists, then every ICE agent and legitimate HR Dept should have access.
Answer:
Employers can already verify that an employee's name and number match Social Security's records. And even if they don't do it themselves, the SSA will send them a letter if they don't match.
Beyond that, I don't want ANYBODY to be able to access my social security information. Identity theft is a big enough problem, this would just make it worse.
They can , a big problem is that almost every number has been used multiple times .
Any cop can punch in a name and birthdate and get your social insecurity number
SSA-L996 is the form to use for requesting the record for a particular number
