In my opinion I don’t think so. There are millions of people looking to become Americans legally and it’s not fair to them. Also I noticed a lot of these immigrants don’t even have a desire to learn English. (a while ago I had a friend I don’t know if here was here legally or not but his mom lived here for 10 plus years and still didn’t speak English) I believe there are more Americans attempting to learn Spanish. I believe the English language unifies us and although we may all be different we all speak English.
And you cannot use the argument we are all immigrants. Most of us checked in and we wanted to learn the language as to not be different. Also immigrants do not do the jobs Americans wont do. When they cleared the illegals out of that meat packing industry there were millions of Americans willing to take that job.

Your teacher is right about the possibility of terrorist coming in with South Americans. Amnesty was granted to several million illegals in 1986 in immigration reform. Then again in 1996 several million more illegals were given amnesty in an immigration reform bill. Now is 2007, Congress and the president want to give amnesty to another 12 million or more illegals in, you guessed it, immigration reform. It didn't work the first two times, but somehow we,re supposed to think this time it will. Amnesty is not the answer. Regarding English; My experience has been that these people don't want to learn our language and when we have retail stores putting up signs in Spanish and automated answering systems offering information is Spanish, why should they? We are enabling them not to have to.
Your teacher is correct that not all are Mexicans, but the majority are Mexicans. And for reference to this comment, the US Immigration Service has only two classifications for their illegals.
1 - Mexican
2 - OTM (Other Than Mexican)
i would say your teacher is wrong about saying that muslims are linked to terrorism even though I am not one... yes illegal immigration is wrong but then again it brings us to topics like over population so... they have really no choice but to move out somewhere...
It may be true. If you are a terrorist and want to get into the western hemisphere, you can't just fly into Mexico.
However, you are able to just fly into many countries just south of Mexico, and it is a lot easier than most Americans think.
From that point, it gets much more difficult for the would-be terrorist to make his way to the US.
Why? Because the government of Mexico implements much stricter border security on its southern border than is even being suggested as necessary for the US/Mexico border by Americans.
They have many more soldiers and federal agents watching it and have almost no negative consequences to deal with for securing it, even when they use lethal force to do so.
If you are confident that the same country who's people were chanting 'Osama, Osama', at the US soccer team and booed and hissed at the Miss USA, just because they were from the US will never elect a government that is anti-US enough to intentionally change its border policy to allow terrorists easier access to this country, my opinion is that you are very naive.
It is really just a matter of time, and if the US/Mexico border is not already secure before that time, it could never be secured in time to keep tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands from making it in.
The number of Muslims is very small but because of the potential damage a small amount of terrorist can cause it is a major concern.
While amnesty may not be fair to those who immigrate legally any “workable’ immigration reform will have to include some form of it. The current plan that calls for a $5000 fine and only gives a path to citizenship behind those in line legally is a possible compromise.
Deportation is not the answer if for no other reason than that it would be a logistical nightmare. Plus I feel that the US government is largely to blame for allowing the problem to get so out of control.
The way I see the 2 most important elements of an effective plan must include complete border security and control along with very harsh penalties to businesses that hire illegals.
There are more than Mexicans crossing the border at the Mexican border. There was a recent article where people from the middle-east were being smuggled to South America and then to Mexico and then here. Another recent article was where they found a smuggling vehicle with Koreans and Chinese being brought in the US via Mexico. I'm sure it's alot more than that. Many come from the middle-east via South America and into Mexico and learn Spanish as to blend in with the people there and on in with other Mexicans. Not to mention alot from South America.
I know many countries are taking refugees from the middle-east but others are trying to escape as well. Some for freedom...some for terriorism.
Not all Muslims are terriorists but all terriorists are Muslim. Unfortunatly they don't wear a sign telling the difference. Not all Latinos are members of LaRaza and MeCha.but all members are Latino. They don't wear t-shirts so I know the difference either. Many of these radical groups join forces with terriorists and their hate speak is just about word for word. Either way.their intent is to take over America and either do away with Christians or Whites so either their "race" or relegion rules supreme. It's extreemly difficult during this time to tell the ones who wish to do us harm and those that don't. It can get very complicated to explain all the reasons why all these people can't help but be viewed with some real concern by the American people.
Should get interesting when the Muslim terriorists butt head to head with the Catholic Latinos for the final power struggle. Especially since alot of Latinos are converting to Muslim.
I get angry because we have every reason in the world to be afraid of both situations. So if it were me and I wasn't one of the radicals..they last darn thing I'd be pressing right now is refusing to speak the language or applying for a job in a grocery store where it was against my relegion to scan pork..or demand special rights for this or special rights for that or scream racism and discrimination at every turn. I'd be trying to blend in and build trust and bridge some huge gaps. Time for a really well deserved breather and to back off and shut up and give the citizens time to adapt. Heck I'm American but they scream go back to England. 95% of my heritage is GERMAN. I have American Indian me as well. If they can't tell by "looking" at me and knowing that.how do they expect me to be able to know with them? They could want to kill Americans and I could line people up from all the over world and they couldn't pick out who was American or Australian or Canadian or European etc. Not unless they had time to hear them talk etc. get to know them..even then they'd probably be wrong alot of the time. How the heck would a Muslim know I was Christian or some other relegion? How could they be sure I wasn't Christian and just donned the outfit and shut-up to blend in? They wouldn't know unless they spent time to know me and we have too many that plain just don't want to know and they use their relegion or their language to keep themselves apart from everyone else so they don't have to know and can keep their hate alive. They are the newbies here. Not me. I'm not threatning to kill people and overtake their country. I'm not invading it and demanding it be changed. They came here....I didn't go their. If they can HATE white people for stealing their land...how the heck do they know if their killing an American or a tourist on vacation here for the first time. Those people lump me and expect me to KNOW the difference...but they can't do the same. I don't want people like that in my country. There's enough problems in the world without these nut jobs loose in our streets hiding behind "racism" and "discrimination" because they're too busy being "special" and "different".
Your teacher is correct. In the past there have been several Iraqi folks apprehended trying to enter the U.S. across the Mexican border. U.S. Border Patrol Agents have caught them as well as other O.T.M.'s ( other than Mexican) with terrorist ties.
