I was in a rush, left out the check. I understand they would not even enter it in the system if there is no fee sent and would return the package. I plan to send in a duplicate set with the check and explain the situation. If they would be so helpful to tie the two together, God bless them, if they return the first set and work with the second set, it would still be acceptable (although a few originals would be replaced by copies).

They will reject that application package. They also do not take credit card over the phone because there is no way for an application which is yet not in the system to be connected to a fee acceptance.
You can put another package in the mail to save time. Just make sure to sign again (in original). If you don't, the package will be rejected -yet again!
