You have this just right.
But most of the people who are into this stupid wall are either: A) people who will profit from the government funding to build it. and/or B) people who cannot seem top grasp that the problem exists because it is profitable for US businesses to hire dirt cheap labor, and not at all profitable for them to provide US citizens with better paying jobs with benefits.
Good idea, let's blame the companies and not the people that sneak over in the first place.

Fine them hell. We need to put some butts in jail. If the jobs dry up, a lot of them will go home of their own accord. As for the rest, ROUND THEM UP, LOCK THEM UP AND KICK THEM OUT!!!!!
We need to make it the responsibility of ANYONE who hires people to verify without a doubt of their citizenship. We then need to offer a reward for information of companies employing illegals. Fines make no dent in the profits of companies, we need to put the CEO in prison, maybe five years for each illegal employee. We need to put their HR people in prison. We need to put that lady down the street who has an illegal mow her lawn in PRISON, it would only take a few and the situation would resolve itself with illegals out of jobs and no prospects.
While I agree with you - employer verification is the MOST important thing - you are ignoring the people who want to commit terrorism, have illnesses that could affect our people, work in underground industries (nannies, drug dealers), various criminals, and so forth.
Also, we have to spend massive resources on enforcing these laws. And noone believes the government will do this. America does their best work in pseduo-conventional military actions - like border security!
And please consider, there are many ways to build fences. We have so much military technology that the fence could be virtual. Again the concern here is that we don't believe the government will kept their word unless we see triple layer physical barriers.
Lastly, the wall need to be built one time - verification is never-ending.
THAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING.
LOOK AT THE MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL MEXICANS ALREADY IN THE UNITED STATES.
THERE IS A LAW FINEING EMPLOYERS FOR HIRING ILLEGALS. IT IS RARELY INFORCED.
THEY NEED TO PUT THEY EMPLOYERS IN JAIL ALONG WITH A FINE AND EVEN SHUT DOWN THE COMPANIES.
THE COMPANIES SEEM TO BE ABOVE THE LAW ALONG WITH THE ILLEGALS. AND THEY TALK ABOUT PARIS HILTON!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!
Because a country without borders is not a country. Don't think for a minute that all criminal employers will pay fines or serve prison time. They can all hire expensive lawyers to get around the law, unlike you and me.
